What I Learnt From Doing The #SeptVidChallenge

13:20:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

It's 30th September and that means it's the last day of the September Video Challenge. What a month!

I dropped behind twice during the month but caught up and still managed to create, edit, and publish 30 videos in 30 days.

What I Learnt From Doing The #SeptVidChallenge

Thank you to those of you that watched the videos, subscribed to my YouTube channel, left comments here on the blog or on social media. I've loved reading your feedback.

Thanks also to those of you that weren't interested in the challenge but patiently put up with my daily posts about it anyway ;)

I had fun doing this and learnt a lot along the way. Thanks to the challenge I've also grown my network and made some awesome new friends too.

Now looking forward to a slightly more relaxed posting schedule, so I can concentrate on my November challenges. Yep, it's NaNoWriMo, PiBoIdMo, and WNFIN time again, and I plan on doing all three this year. More about those soon :)

Anyway here's the last video from the September Video Challenge. It seemed fitting to do a summary of what I learnt from doing the challenge.

Don't forget to subscribe to the newsletter for all the exclusive stats and info about the impact of doing the challenge, along with the results of my other marketing efforts over the month of September.

Library Reads: What The Kids Picked This Week 27 Sept - 3 Oct #SeptVidChallenge

13:00:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

Welcome to day 29 of the September Video Challenge. Todays video is the first in a new video series I'll be posting weekly to my YouTube channel, about the books my kids pick from the library each week and what we thought of them.

Library Reads: What The Kids Picked This Week 27 Sept - 3 Oct #SeptVidChallenge #LibraryReads

Every week I take my kids to the library to check out some new books. As we live in Italy most of the library is for books in Italian but they do have a good international section with lots of English language books too, so we always get a selection of both Italian and English books to take home.

This week the boys picked:

Five Little Monkeys - Play Hide-and-Seek by Eileen Christelow
The Haunted House by Kazuno Kohara

How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague

Have you been to the library this week? What books are you reading with your kids this week? Share in the comments below.

Types of Editing #SeptVidChallenge

16:59:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

It's day 28 of the September Video Challenge and I'm busy working on edits for my children's picture story book, The Bedtime Book, so I thought I'd make todays video about editing.

Types of Editing #SeptVidChallenge

There are lots of different types of editing, and as an author it's important to know the differences. This video therefore is a quick summary of the different types of editing.

P.S. I'm currently in the line editing phase.

Welcome to day 27 of the September Video Challenge.

Which Social Media Sites are the Best? #SeptVidChallenge

I'm a social media junky. I love it. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+.... I'm pretty much everywhere. Not all sites are the same though. I do have my favourites.

For todays video I'm sharing which social media sites are my favourites and why.

Book Review: Father of Fear by Ethan Cross #SeptVidChallenge

10:24:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

Welcome to day 26 of the September Video Challenge. Can't believe we're heading into the last week already!

Today I'm reviewing Father of Fear by Ethan Cross.

Ethan Cross is fast becoming one of my favourite authors and Father of Fear was just as good as the other titles I've read in the Shephard series (if you haven't read them, check them out too!)

This book gets a 5+ star review. An awesome read from beginning to end. Strong characters, action packed, thought provoking, and plenty of twists and turns along the way.

I highly recommend this book if you like the crime, or thriller genres.

What NOT To Do on Twitter #SeptVidChallenge

18:33:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

WOW! Already day 24 of the September Video Challenge. This month is flying by!

As I often share tips about what to do, I thought I'd mix things up a bit and do a what NOT to do today. Got to keep things interesting after all ;)

What NOT To Do on Twitter #SeptVidChallenge

I love using Twitter (yes, I know. I've said it a thousand times. It is awesome though). That said, everyday I see people using it wrongly. You can't complain that you're not getting good results with it if you're not using it correctly.

So, for todays video I decided to share some of my pet peeves so that you don't annoy the Twitterverse, and can get the results you really want.

What is number one on your list of not to do for Twitter?

How Do You Use The Favourite Button On Twitter? #SeptVidChallenge

09:36:00 Jo Linsdell 2 Comments

Welcome to day 23 of the September Video Challenge.

As you probably know by now, I love Twitter. I also love sharing Twittertastic tips with you, and so todays video is about Twitters favourite button and how it gets used.

How Do You Use The Favourite Button On Twitter? #SeptVidChallenge

People use Twitters favourite button in different ways. Some use it as a way of showing gratitude for retweets, and mentions. Others use it to bookmark tweets they found useful. Some use it to highlight comments and testimonials about their products and services.

In this video I share how I use my favourite button.

How to Increase Engagement on Twitter #SeptVidChallenge

16:52:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

Welcome to day 22 of the September Video challenge! I finally managed to get back up to date with the challenge [insert happy dance here].

How to Increase Engagement on Twitter #SeptVidChallenge

By now you're probably aware that I love Twitter. I've said numerous times that Twitter is one of my favourite social media sites, and also one of the best for return on investment. One thing I love about it is the level of engagement on site. Social media should of course be social, and Twitter most definitely is.

For todays video I thought I'd cover how to increase engagement on Twitter to give you some ideas for how you can join the conversation, or start one of your own.

P.S. Come find me on Twitter and drop me a tweet at @JoLinsdell

Behind the Scenes: My "Film Studio" #SeptVidChallenge

14:58:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

As I've been putting out a lot of content this month, I decided that for day 21 of the September Video Challenge, I'd take you behind the scenes a little, and reveal a few secret tips.

Behind the Scenes: My "Film Studio" #SeptVidChallenge

We all know that video is a powerful medium. Some people get blocked though as they don't have a fancy film studio and/or high tech video editing software, and so don't feel like they can put out professional looking videos.

Don't let a lack of space or software stop you!

You can put out great video content without all that. All you need is a little, clutter-free area. A simple free program like windows movie maker is also enough.

In this video I talk about my "film studio" and share a few tips for getting a professional look. I also let you know which is my editing program of choice.

Where do you like to film from? Describe your set up? Which video editing software do you like to use?

Should you have more than one Twitter account? #SeptVidChallenge

Should you have more than one Twitter account? #SeptVidChallenge

For the day 20 video in the September Video Challenge I thought I'd answer a question that often comes up, especially from authors: Should you have more than one Twitter account?

How many Twitter accounts do you really need? Is one enough? Is more than two too many? Do you need separate accounts for you as an author, for each of your books, etc...?

How many Twitter accounts do you have?

Save Time and Organise Your Social Media Posts With This Free App #SeptVidChallenge

23:58:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

Whilst I often try out new apps, I have a few apps that I use on a fairly regular basis. I thought you might be interested in knowing more about these apps that help me save time and keep everything organised and so for day 19 of the September Video Challenge I share with you about one of my favourites.

Save Time and Organise Your Social Media Posts With This Free App #SeptVidChallenge

Having a solid social media presence is a must nowadays but what about when you need a break? How do you keep up a constant presence when you're on holiday or when you have project deadlines to meet?

I personally love Hootsuite. It's free, very easy to use, and you can post to multiple social media sites all with a simple click. As well as scheduling posts, it's also great for monitoring specific hashtags, and people, making it super easy to connect with my target audience.

Do you use Hootsuite? What do you use it for most?

Best and Worst Times to Post to Social Media #SeptVidChallenge

23:08:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

For day 18 of the September Video Challenge I decided to cover the best and worst times to post to social media. I chose this topic after reading yet another article telling me the optimal times for posting, and discovering that during those, so called "best times" my readers aren't active.

This got me thinking and so I decided to share with you the real secret truth about the best and worst times for posting to social media.

Best and Worst Times to Post to Social Media #SeptVidChallenge

There are a lot of social media experts out there who blast you about the best and worst times to post to social media. Whilst these articles can be great as a reminder to check your stats and monitor your social media presence, there's something you should know.... The best and worst times to post vary from person to person, and so although Tuesday at 8pm might be the hot spot for Mr. Social Media Expert, it might be the worst time for you and your target audience.

It is important to work out when your readers are online and so these articles do serve a purpose. They can help give inspiration, and get you experimenting with content types at different times of day to help you find the right times for you.

When is your sweet spot? When does your content get the best results?

Twitter Lists: The Easy Way To Filter Tweets #SeptVidChallenge

22:44:00 Jo Linsdell 0 Comments

Ok, so I dropped behind again. This challenge is tough. I have been filming my daily videos for the September Video Challenge, I just haven't managed to upload them all on a daily basis. Maybe September wasn't the best month to try this challenge, what with my birthday, kids going back to school, etc...

Anyway... what's done it done and I'm just going to have to try and make up for lost ground so that I finish the challenge with 30 videos uploaded by the 30th.

This is the video for day 17. Twitter Lists: The Easy Way To Filter Tweets.

Twitter Lists: The Easy Way To Filter Tweets #SeptVidChallenge

Twitter is a fantastic social media site. One of my personal favourites.   I love how everything is so quick and easy. It's great ROI too. One thing that turns a lot of people away though is the feeling of being overwhelmed. With so much information, and the constant new content being shared it can be hard to keep track of your tweets and find what you were actually looking for.

That's where the Lists feature comes in. Lists is the perfect way to filter tweets into topics or groups of people, so that when you want a specific type of tweet you know exactly where you can find it.

For more Twitter tips make sure you check out my book How to be Twittertastic.
