This week I picked The Thorn Necklace by Francesca Lia Block.
For devotees of Bird by Bird and The Artist's Way, a memoir-driven guide to healing through the craft of writing
Francesca Lia Block is the bestselling author of more than twenty-five books, including the award-winning Weetzie Bat series. Her writing has been called "transcendent" by The New York Times, and her books have been included in "best of" lists compiled by Time magazine and NPR.
In this long-anticipated guide to the craft of writing, Block offers an intimate glimpse of an artist at work and a detailed guide to help readers channel their own experiences and creative energy. Sharing visceral insights and powerful exercises, she gently guides us down the write-to-heal path, revealing at each turn the intrinsic value of channeling our experiences onto the page.
Named for the painting by Frida Kahlo, who famously transformed her own personal suffering into art, The Thorn Necklace offers lessons on life, love, and the creative process.
Sounds good! I ADORE that cover!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to starting this one. It's a bit different from the usual books about writing that I read.
DeleteI like the sound of this book, though I am not a writer.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of The Thorn Necklace is something that might appeal to non-writers too as it's about healing through the craft of writing.
DeleteWhat a lovely cover!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice. Elegant and simple at the same time.
DeleteBut the title - it made me flinch when I saw it
ReplyDeleteWhen I was first approached to review The Thorn Necklace I had no idea what the book was about from the title. Now I know why it's called that, I love the idea. This is definitely a book that needs it's subtitle though.
DeleteThat's a very elegant looking cover.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteSounds really great Jo! I enjoy reading books on the process of writing, to better understand what authors go through to create.
ReplyDeleteThis one is a different approach to the writing books I usually read, but I love the idea of using writing to heal. It's definitely helped me over the years. One of the reasons I love writing so much is that it allows me an outlet for my emotions and thoughts. It's great therapy.
DeleteThere is so much truth to the process that this book mentions.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading more about the process.
DeleteEnjoy your reads!
