February 2022 Book Blogger Round Up

Book Blogger Posts Round Up

A collection of blog posts by book bloggers

This post may contain affiliate links. Meaning, I get a commission if you purchase through my links, at no cost to you. Read the full disclosure here.

Looking for new bookish content to read? Want to discover some new book bloggers to follow?  Look no further!

I introduced this new feature here on the blog in May 2021 to showcase blog posts by other book bloggers. I'll be linking up a variety of blog posts so hopefully there will be something to suit all tastes.

The following posts were submitted for inclusion in this round up via my Twitter, where I asked for posts. I'll be continuing to do this every month.

Why?

Because I like reading blog posts by other book bloggers and thought you might too. Finding the time to scan through various social media feeds to find suitable content can take up valuable time though and so I figured I'd make it easier and put together a collection here on the blog.

My plan is to include a wide variety of content so there's something for everyone. You'll find book reviews, interviews, discussion pieces and more...

Want to be included in future round ups? Follow my Twitter profile and keep an eye out for the submission tweet.

Check out the review by @sperchikoff in her post The Maid by Nita Prose: Voice, Trauma, and Finding Your People. "while the mystery was interesting, it’s the characters that made this book what it is". You can get a copy of The Maid here.

@cats_herding reviewed Wilthaven by Oli Jacobs as part of a blog tour organised by @The_WriteReads. "Wow!  What a completely unexpected book Wilthaven was.  I’ve never read anything like it and I was completely blown away by the writing style, the use of mixed media and how Oli Jacobs balanced humour with a certain level of genuine creepiness so well." You can get a copy of Wilthaven here.

@storywhispers reviewed The Hunting Ground by Will Shindler. "The Hunting Ground will have you frothing at the mouth, especially at the way those men with money think they can manhandle a woman. It will also keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat. It is an amazing read. So grab yourself a copy and settle down, ready to be taken through a roller-coaster of emotions. This is a series that just keeps on giving and getting better with each book." You can get a copy of The Hunting Ground here.

@ReadingLadiesBC asked Are you a rereader? in her discussion post about what makes people reread a book. She also includes in the post her review of a book she recently reread: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

In her post Sailing Towards the Future @ChocolateLady57 reviews The Next Ship Home by Heather Webb. "All told, I believe telling the stories of these immigrants from America’s past was a difficult task, and I can praise Webb for stepping up to the plate to tell the them."

In her post The Cutest Contemporary Romance Books to Read @espressoedition gives us 28 Contemporary Romances to Read Right Away.

@alitescape shared a book review of Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian. "Half Sick of Shadows is a feminist retelling of Arthurian lore. @See_Sadie did a two-tier review of Nikolai & Nikolai 2, by Roxie Rivera and had mixed feelings about the books. "But, all in all, I enjoyed more than I didn’t." You can find copies of the books here.

@cjfriess celebrated International Book Giving Day on 14th February and gave examples of ways to get involved.

@DBLbookblog shared Ten Books by Black Authors featuring Black Love. "As someone of mixed race, I grew up not having anyone in stories or on book covers who look like me. Because of this, I think everyone deserves to see characters who look like them. And since February is Black History Month, I want to show appreciation for black authors and showcase novels with black love stories."

The book synopsis for The Mice Before Christmas by Anne L. Watson

The Mice Before Christmas by Anne L. Watson
Everyone knows that famous line from "The Night Before Christmas," Clement Clarke Moore's classic poem: "Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse." But how many know why all those mice were already in bed, or what they were up to before that?

Here at last is a companion poem to reveal all: The holiday hustle and bustle in the mouse house since early that morning. The evening party for all the mouse friends and relations, with presents, feasting, and dancing. And to top it all off, a visit from Santa Mouse himself!

Never before told, this mice-eye story is sure to find a place in your heart beside the original classic.

Everything You Need To Know About Metadata

SEO can be overwhelming for the best of us, and down right frightening for others, so I'm going to try and help explain some of the more technical parts in more detail for you.

For today's post we're going to be delving into the world of meta data.

You might also like: Things That Should Be In Every Blog Post

What Are Meta Tags?

Let's start by defining was meta tags are. Meta tags are a basic part of HTML code and they can have a huge impact on SEO. They are pieces of information you use to tell search engines and those viewing your site more about your page and the information it contains. Meta tags aren't seen by viewers to your site but work in the background to tell what each page contains.

How Meta Tags Affect Brand Image and Click-through Rates

You absolutely can judge a book by its cover. It’s what covers are designed for. Your title and meta description tag create the cover for your web page. They’re your first impression on most visitors. It’s not just about search engines, but how we view the Internet. - Neil Patel

As Mr. Patel says, meta tags can have a huge affect on not only your brand image but also on click-through rates.

Best Practices for Understanding & Writing Metadata

Why are meta tags important?

Meta tags are an important part of SEO because they impact how your site shows in search engine result pages (SERPs) and also how many people will click-through to your website.

How do meta tags improve website accessibility?

Not only will your Title Tag show up on the search results, but the Title Tag will also be added to the browser window or tab of your website so users can see what the page is about...
The Title Tag will also show up if you share your content on social media where ‘Open Graph’ is enabled. Open Graph previews a web page when linked on social media and makes your social media posts more neat and professional...
From an accessibility point of view, the Title Tag will be read out to people using screen readers, who ordinarily would not be able to see your website. The Title Tag will allow users to understand what the content on each page relates to.- thinkcre8

What types of meta tags should I use?

Title tags- This is the title of your page and should be unique for every page you publish.
Meta description- This is a description of the content on the page.
Open graph tags- These are used to specify what shows up in the title and image by default when sharing links on social sites.
Alt Text Tag- This is used to describe images.

There are of course many more. You can find out more about the above mentioned meta tags and others in this post by Clutch about Meta Tags that improve SEO.

You should, of course, be using your keywords in your meta data. As a book blogger you'll want to include things like "Book Review" and the title of the book and the name of the author. The more specific the better.

How do I add meta tags to my website?

To add meta tags to your website you need to edit the html code. If you're using Blogger or Wordpress for your blog they had sections where you can fill in the information and they produce the html code for the meta tags for you automatically.

The book synopsis for Every Day in December by Kitty Wilson

Book Review Every Day in December by Kitty Wilson

Two people. One month to fall in love.

‘The perfect Christmas story, full of heart and hope’ Sandy Barker

Belle Wilde loves December. Yes, she’s just lost her job and Christmas is not a good time to find yourself ‘financially challenged’. And yes, her parents are still going on about the fact that she really should have it all together by now. But Belle believes that in December, magic can happen.

Rory Walters hates December. Whilst it looks like his life is together, he’s still reeling from a winter’s night five years ago when his life changed forever. Now back at home, he’s certain that this will be yet another Christmas to endure rather than enjoy.

But as midnight on December 31st draws closer, Belle and Rory’s time together is coming to an end. With a little help from a Christmas miracle could Belle find the one thing she really wants underneath the mistletoe?

The book synopsis for Twelve Days to Save Christmas by Elizabeth Neep

Book Review: Twelve Days to Save Christmas by Elizabeth Neep

On the first day of Christmas, my true love… dumped me.

Poppy loves Christmas and always goes all out to make this magical time of the year extra special for her boyfriend George. But George is strangely not in the Yuletide spirit this year. As Poppy wrestles him into her Christmas jumper built for two for a holiday snapshot, she finds out why.

He’s leaving her. With only twelve days to spend together until Christmas.

Poppy is heartbroken. George is the love of her life, and what would Christmas be without kisses under the mistletoe, his mum’s delicious homemade gingerbread or their super-competitive games of Pictionary?

She’s determined to win George back. So, anxious to prove to him she can be spontaneous, she signs up as a Christmas volunteer at the local community centre. What she doesn’t know is that there’s a festive surprise coming her way…

As Poppy throws herself into her new role – mulling vats of hot cider and hanging fairy lights off everything within reach – she discovers an inner strength she never knew she had. And there’s also Theo. Her new boss. Grumpy and opinionated, he’s everything she doesn’t want.

But as the snow starts to fall, she begins to notice other things about him – like his twinkling green eyes, how he makes her laugh, and how much he cares about the people he’s trying to help.

As the twelfth day approaches, Poppy might be about to discover that the most perfect Christmas might be the one that she didn’t plan at all…

Fans of One Day in December, Beth O’Leary and Mhairi McFarlane will be completely enchanted by this witty and warm festive story about friendship, love and finding yourself.

The book synopsis for Six Hard Days In Andalusia by Damian Vargas

Book Review: Six Hard Days In Andalusia by Damian Vargas

"We have a problem in Málaga. Terminate your current assignment with all haste."

When an old-time English drug smuggler and his crew meet their end in a bloody shoot-out on the Costa del Sol, it's of little concern to most. After all, gangsters get killed. It's what happens in their line of work. Allegiances change. Men die. It's the way of things.

However, when Mary Lawson a.k.a. 'The Accountant', a former MI6 agent turned independent contractor to the mob, is instructed by her shady bosses to investigate, things quickly get a lot more complicated.

Hardened by her years in British military intelligence and ruthlessly professional, the woman who is no stranger to death and suffering, sets out to find who is responsible. However, on the 'Costa del Crime' with its regular influx of millions of tourists, a history of political corruption, and a diverse and thriving criminal underworld, nothing is ever simple.

The father that deserted his family. The prodigal daughter, fallen from grace. A hoard of devious, manipulating and violent characters. And an unfortunate British tourist who gets caught up in the middle of the whole bloody mess.

One thing is for sure. While Andalusia might seem like a paradise to visiting holidaymakers, for The Accountant, there's a job to be done.

Quote from Six Hard Days In Andalusia by Damian Vargas

‘Then now you know what you need to do. When you get home, no matter how hard a struggle it may seem, you start writing, and don’t stop until you have finished a book. It might be awful. Nobody may ever read it, but you will know you tried your hardest. You gave it a shot. You took a risk.’
