Books: First Lines Fridays 17th January 2025
Welcome to another First Lines Friday! Are you ready to judge this week's book based purely on it's opening lines?
Disclosure: The FTC Disclosure Provision is a law that requires influencers to disclose when they are being paid to promote a product or service. So please know that if I'm not making money through affiliate links/sponsored content on the post you're currently reading, it's an oversight on my part and will be corrected soon. I'm participating in First Lines Fridays as I think it's a great way to highlight more of the books that are on my bookshelves.
What is First Lines Fridays?
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
My Pick For This Week
The first lines of the book:
Lindsay woke to muffled rock music. She turned her head, gasping at the sharp pain that exploded into an excruciating headache. She scrunched her eyes, willing it away, but the pain throbbed in agonizing waves. She reached out for her bedside Tinker Bell lamp, squinting to prepare for bright light, but instead her arm flailed into a void where the lamp should have been.

Book synopsis for Dead Girls Don't Blog by Pamela Frost Dennis
Blogged Down with Justice ... Will Katy's good intentions save the day, or will her amateur sleuthing land her six feet under?
Meet Katy McKenna—early thirties and freshly liberated from her cheating "was-band." Her post-divorce plan was to wallow in self-pity while gorging on mint-chip ice cream and bingeing Hallmark movies on Amazon Prime with her loyal Labrador, Daisy. But her best friend, Samantha, had other ideas.
Fed up with Katy’s non-stop divorce rants, Samantha convinces her to start a personal blog. Katy reluctantly agrees, figuring it’s a win-win: she gets to vent, and Samantha gets some peace.
But just as Katy is getting the hang of blogging about her divorce, her fun-loving grandma Ruby, and her hot new neighbor Josh, she discovers that the man who brutally murdered their high school friend sixteen years ago is up for parole. Suddenly, her blog takes a sharp turn from humor to homicide.
Armed with nothing but her laptop, a questionable amount of caffeine, and Daisy’s unwavering support, Katy sets out to stop the parole.
As she digs deeper, she uncovers secrets that some people would kill to keep buried. Between dodging danger and navigating unexpected sparks with Josh, Katy’s life becomes a roller coaster of justice, chaos, terror, and romance.
One thing’s for sure: Katy’s not going down without a fight—and probably a few more mishaps along the way.
