Books: First Lines Fridays 7th November 2025
Why I Love First Lines Fridays
I'm joining in with First Lines Fridays because it’s a brilliant way to highlight more books from my own collection. Whether it’s a current read or one still on my TBR pile, I love sharing those unforgettable opening lines that instantly grab you.
What is First Lines Fridays?
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
My First Lines Pick For This Week
The first lines of the book:
“You know what your problem is?” Finn says, leaning against the doorframe of The Grape Escape wine shop with his arms crossed and that infuriating grin that makes my stomach do little flips. “Enlighten me,” I reply, not looking up from the inventory spreadsheet that’s been my constant companion for the past three weeks. Numbers don’t lie, but they also don’t make running a wine shop any easier.
And the book is...
Noelle Knight is finally finding her rhythm in Mermaid Bay. Her wine shop, The Grape Escape, is back in business, and she’s wondering if her handsome housemate Finn might be more than just the boy next door.
But when a VIP chocolatier arrives for her “Sweet & Sips” event—and winds up dead — Noelle’s carefully planned weekend turns into a crime scene. Detective Mendez is back, trying to pin the murder on Noelle. But Noelle's guest list is full of suspects. And her family’s secrets are bubbling back up, one vintage bottle at a time.
With the help of her beloved, judgmental cat, her handsome roomie, and a town full of colorful characters, Noelle must follow the clues before the killer strikes again. Because in Mermaid Bay, the past doesn’t stay buried—and neither do the bodies.
Grab your copy of Book 2 in the Mermaid Bay Wine Mystery—where the chocolate is rich, the wine flows freely, and murder is always just a corkscrew away.
