I've been having a lovely summer break so far. The kids are keeping me busy (I'm going to need a break once this break is over ;)). Beach, swimming pool, concerts, hanging out with friends and family... so much fun! Unfortunately it has meant I'm a little behind with work. I'm going to be doing some major catch up sessions. I have managed to fit in a bit of reading though so all is not lost ;)

This past week has been awesome! Here's a look at why...
The Box
My children's picture story book The Box was available as a free download on Kindle on 8th and 9th March and hit multiple best seller lists on Amazon for different countries during the promotion. This is a screenshot taken on 8th March:
The Box then reached number 3 in basic concept books on 9th March (insert happy dance here)
It then received a couple of new 5 star reviews, One on Amazon US:
And one on Amazon Italy:
Needless to say I was pleased with the results of this promotion. Italian for Tourists Then on 10th March I logged in to check for sales and discovered that Italian for Tourists was back in the best seller lists again. Over the moon about that as I wasn't running again promotions for that one and it was in the paid category.
Gunpowder The good news doesn't stop there either! Gunpowder (KOSMOS Episode Two) is free from 10th -12th March and guess what... it hit the best seller lists too! On the US site it reached number 10 for historical fiction on 10th March
And number 1 on Amazon Italy (I'm still in shock!). It's still holding the number 1 spot today too :)
You can still grab your free copy of Gunpowder. Here's all the links:
As you can see it's been an awesome week for me and my books. I do have a small favour to ask you though that would make it even better.... please take a minute to leave a review for any of my books you've read.
Reviews are so important. They help other readers decide if the book is for them and therefore can be the deal closer on new sales. They also activate the Amazon algorithms which means that Amazon starts pushing the book in their promotions. This is huge for authors as can mean the book gets seen by a much larger audience. And last, but by no means least, it gives me the chance to see what you like about my books (and what can be improved) so I can make better books in the future. It's also probably the most effective form of motivation to write more, when a reader tells you they enjoyed your book.
Not sure what to write in a review?
A review doesn't have to be long. Just a couple of sentences will do (unless of course you want to write more ;)).
What did you like about the book?
Who would you recommend the book for?

"The Box took me right back to my childhood and my children's childhood. Now, I can read it to my grandchildren and tell them how I played with a box and how their Mom or Dad did. Jo Linsdell has written a fun book with illustrations that will touch your heart and take you back in time. It has just the right number of words and sentences to connect to your toddler's imagination and stay within their attentive span. When I get a new book for the grandchildren I often bring something to go with it like seeds and a shovel for a book about a garden. How neat is this. I will only need to find a discarded box! Imagination is a wonderful thing to promote. This really does deserve 5 stars."
"I loved this book! The Box by Jo Linsdell has all the makings of a favorite children's book: simple, imaginative and fun. I wish I had this book when my boy was a toddler, but there are others in my life who are going to enjoy seeing all the creative things they can do with a box. And then, I'm sure, they will want to immediately read the book again! Congratulations to Jo Linsdell on a very lovely book."
"Jo Linsdell is a genius. The Box, is a delightful little book and fun to read to little ones. The story is simply done, with just the right amount of text and the illustrations add to it perfectly. My youngest child clients absolutely love it. It's so much fun to read about all the imaginative activities a child could do with a box. (And to think an adult wrote this!) After the story ends I encourage kids to think up more ways to use a box...."Because a box is just a box, except when it's not." This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it."
"The most expensive toy will never match up with a simple large box. Ms. Linsdell does an awesome job with this fun and simple children's picture book that brought back nostalgic memories for me. A box holds so many possibilities and the imagination is endless! :) The artwork is beautiful, clear and engaging for both a child and the adult reading the story. I really enjoy the clean simplicity. A great book for that special boy who will always remember the fun he had with a simple box! This is a great indoor/rainy day or outdoor fun story! Works all around! :)"
"What I’ve always loved about Linsdell’s children’s books is their simplicity and creativity. As a mom, she knows what young readers are looking for. She proves this once again with The Box. How often do parents joke that we buy our kids a bunch of toys for their birthday and they end up playing with the boxes? Linsdell truly gets into the heart of a child with this one. The adorable illustrations keep the reader focused on the boy and his magic box that he can transform into anything."
"The text, illustrations, and the theme of the book is simplicity at its best. It is not complicated, fancy, or hard to understand. The book shares the creative possibilities of taking a simple cardboard box and using imagination to let it become an endless array of possibilities to entertain and amuse young children. The thought struck me as I read it how things in life need to be simplified to the basics. A great book for adults to share with young children"
Once you've read the book please take a moment to post a quick review to Amazon and/or Goodreads. It will only take you a minute, but will make a big difference for me. Thanks in advance for your support.

This week's review showcase is for Italian for Tourists. Here's a few of the comments it's received:
"I am an Italian Instructor for the Palm Beach County School Board, Florida. I teach Italian (for Travelers, Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced) adult education classes in Palm Beach Gardens Community High School and privately. In addition, I am the organizer of two Italian social, language travel and cultural clubs LEONARDO's ITALIAN LINK, LEONARDO'S ITALIAN CLUB, in addition to LEONARDO'S ITALIAN BOOK CLUB, in South Florida; I faithfully dedicate this time to the community that shares my passion for Italy and all things Italian. As an entrepreneur,I represent an Italian multinational company. After reviewing many language and travel books, I have chosen Jo Linsdell's "Italian for Travelers" paperback as the official Italian language book that will be used by all students that will attend Palm Beach Gardens Community High School adult classes " Italian for Travelers". As per my recommendation, aforementioned, is now the official book for said classes, which will be purchased by my private students, my Italian book club social/travel/club members, and the PBGCHS. Congratulations to Jo Linsdell for a fine job!"By lori.samarin
"This is the best introductory travel book to start with for your trip to Italy. It is bare bones. I am so glad I ordered this. Simplistic is the best description for this book. It is for those, like me, who are traveling to Italy for the first time and know no Italian." By "CandiJ"
"I don’t speak Italian. I have enough trouble with English (or is it American). Jo Linsdell has written the definitive guidebook. I know if I ever make it to Italy, this is the book I want. Why? Because it’s layout is simple, easy to use and covers everything. Ms Linsdell has put in a guide to how to pronounce the letters and put in the most common of phrases. There is not a lot of excess wording so finding what phrase or word you need in a hurry is very simple. This book is a must for anyone traveling to Italy. The only negative is that it doesn’t go into all the bad language that Italian drivers throw at each other. Wait, that’s a good thing. The first thing you notice is how the book is divided. Then you get the guide to how to pronounce each letter and in Italian, you do just that. After that, all you have to do is look for the section you need, airport, train station, hotel, etc, and all the common phrases are there. Anyone who travels can use this book. There are many Italian to English books or other combinations, but none are as easy to use as Italian for Tourists. I highly recommend this to anyone traveling to Italy" -By Ron Berry
"If you are travelling to Italy, this is a must have book".- By Karen Cioffi
"I never knew that learning another language could be so simple, so helpful and so much fun. If ever you are going to visit Italy, this is the only book you will need!"- By Jamieson Wolf
"Ms. Linsdell divides the book in easy-to- navigate sections to make finding what you need quick. I believe this will be a highly recommended source by many travel agencies in the near future"- By Joyce Anthony
