Taking Time Out to Recharge: A Family Break in Ischia, Italy
Just What the Doctor Ordered
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that ongoing health issues have been a big part of my life. Being unwell has unfortunately become more of a constant than a temporary setback. My doctors and I are actively working to get to the root of the problem, and while it’s been a long process, I’m hopeful that better health is on the horizon.
After being ill almost continuously since the beginning of November, we made the decision to take a short family holiday to Ischia, Italy. The goal was simple: slow down, rest, and give my body the chance to recharge.
Why We Chose Ischia, Italy
For anyone who hasn’t visited, Ischia is a beautiful Italian island located in the Bay of Naples. Known for its breathtaking coastal views, historic castle, and famous natural thermal hot springs, Ischia feels like the perfect place to focus on relaxation and recovery. The volcanic hot waters are often praised for their healing properties—making it feel like a destination that really was just what the doctor ordered.
The view from our apartment alone was enough to lift my spirits. Waking up to the sea each morning was a reminder to slow down and simply breathe.

When Rest Turns Into Recovery
Unfortunately, despite my hopes that the fresh sea air would help, my health took a turn for the worse. I’d already been battling a persistent cough before we left, and during the trip I developed a high fever, constant coughing, and vomiting. By the time we returned home, my temperature had risen above 39°C, and after fainting, it became clear that something wasn’t right.
Healing, Rest, and Looking Ahead
Thankfully, the antibiotics are working, and I’m steadily improving. My husband and children have been incredible, helping me rest and recover properly while I focus on getting stronger. I have follow-up X-rays scheduled later this week, and I’m feeling cautiously optimistic that they’ll show clear results.
This experience has been a reminder of how important it is to listen to your body, slow down when needed, and prioritise health—even when life feels busy or overwhelming.
Here’s hoping this marks the start of better days ahead.
