Book Review: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Half boy. Half God. ALL Hero. Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God. I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. Now I spend my time battling monsters and generally trying to stay alive. This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea.Sunday Times

  1. I haven’t read this series but enjoyed watching the film with my kids as a camp counselor!

    1. This series has fast become one of my favourites. I watched the two films first and enjoyed them. When I saw the box set of the books on offer whilst we were on holiday earlier this year I knew I had to buy it. I'm so glad I did! The books so much better than the films. I do wish they would do films for the rest of the series though, or so a tv series for it. I would definitely watch it. I'm Percy Jackson obsessed ;)

  4. It’s fun when we adults can pick up a “kid’s book” and be like “HEY WAIT THIS IS GOOD STUFF!” isn’t it?

If you like Rick Riordan I highly recommend an indie author from my area, Jeffrey Cook, who co-wrote with Katherine Perkins and produced The Fair Folk Chronicles, a series dealing with Celtic mythology, set in Seattle, Washington. Great stuff!!

    1. Thanks for the recommendation. Will check it out. I'll definitely be reading more Rick Riordan books too.

When I first purchased the Percy Jackson box set I was thinking mainly of my son reading it, but I loved it.

  5. I am a HUGE fan of the Percy Jackson series. I have read and loved all of the books (except for Blood of Olympus, which I can't bring myself to read for the sadness of ending the series). I will admit that I am critical of the movie because it veers so much from the books. The movies were so awkwardly set up that it would have been difficult to do the whole series. Regardless, I still love the books and I hope that you like the rest of the series!

    1. The books are so much better than the films (I did enjoy the films too though. But I did watch them first). Already feeling sad about this series ending. I'll definitely be reading Magnus Chase, the Kane Chronicles, and other books by Rick Riordan.

  11. Love your videos, they're so much fun to watch :-)
And yeah, go, cool moms! Always makes me happy when there are some great parents in books, not just dead or shitty ones.

Agreed. Yay for cool mums! Parents always seem to get a bad rep in YA books so it was nice to have some positive parenting for a change.

    1. I only have book 5 left to read now. I loved every book in this series so far and whilst I can't wait to see how it ends, I don't want it to end.
