Book Review: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Half boy. Half God. ALL Hero. Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God. I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. Now I spend my time battling monsters and generally trying to stay alive. This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea.Sunday Times

I haven’t read this series but enjoyed watching the film with my kids as a camp counselor!
ReplyDeleteThis series has fast become one of my favourites. I watched the two films first and enjoyed them. When I saw the box set of the books on offer whilst we were on holiday earlier this year I knew I had to buy it. I'm so glad I did! The books so much better than the films. I do wish they would do films for the rest of the series though, or so a tv series for it. I would definitely watch it. I'm Percy Jackson obsessed ;)
DeleteGreat review Jo. I really should check out this series as I hear such good things.
ReplyDeleteIt really is worth it. I love this series.
DeleteI haven't read any of the books. Have seen the first movie though, Great review.
ReplyDeleteThe books are so much better than the films. I did enjoy the films but the books are just plain awesome.
DeleteI always enjoy your posts
ReplyDeleteThanks DJ :)
DeleteIt’s fun when we adults can pick up a “kid’s book” and be like “HEY WAIT THIS IS GOOD STUFF!” isn’t it?
ReplyDeleteIf you like Rick Riordan I highly recommend an indie author from my area, Jeffrey Cook, who co-wrote with Katherine Perkins and produced The Fair Folk Chronicles, a series dealing with Celtic mythology, set in Seattle, Washington. Great stuff!!
Thanks for the recommendation. Will check it out. I'll definitely be reading more Rick Riordan books too.
DeleteWhen I first purchased the Percy Jackson box set I was thinking mainly of my son reading it, but I loved it.
great review
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteI am a HUGE fan of the Percy Jackson series. I have read and loved all of the books (except for Blood of Olympus, which I can't bring myself to read for the sadness of ending the series). I will admit that I am critical of the movie because it veers so much from the books. The movies were so awkwardly set up that it would have been difficult to do the whole series. Regardless, I still love the books and I hope that you like the rest of the series!

The books are so much better than the films (I did enjoy the films too though. But I did watch them first). Already feeling sad about this series ending. I'll definitely be reading Magnus Chase, the Kane Chronicles, and other books by Rick Riordan.
DeleteI saw the movie which was a mistake. I should have read the book. Oh well. Great review!
ReplyDeleteThe book is much better than the film. There's differences between them too. I watched the film first too, but I'm so glad I got the box set and read the series.
DeleteMy daughter loved this series. I still have it sitting on my bookshelf.
ReplyDeletePercy Jackson is for all ages. I highly recommend giving it a go yourself.
DeleteGreat review! I need to read this series!
ReplyDeletePercy Jackson rocks! I agree. You need to read this series ;)
DeleteOh, I keep seeing this.
ReplyDeleteI love this series. I'll be posting my reviews of the rest of the Percy Jackson books soon.
DeleteWas never into YA, but I remember seeing the movie on tv, was kind of cool. Nice review.
ReplyDeleteThe film was good. The books are awesome.
DeleteLove your videos, they're so much fun to watch :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, go, cool moms! Always makes me happy when there are some great parents in books, not just dead or shitty ones.
I'm so glad you enjoy my videos :)
DeleteAgreed. Yay for cool mums! Parents always seem to get a bad rep in YA books so it was nice to have some positive parenting for a change.
Loved the cover
ReplyDeleteI much prefer these book covers to the others available.
DeleteI loved this book! And read it a while ago but somehow did not around to the rest of the series that I had been meaning to. Your post makes me want to get back to it.
ReplyDeleteI only have book 5 left to read now. I loved every book in this series so far and whilst I can't wait to see how it ends, I don't want it to end.
DeleteGreat review, I saw the film first as well but I haven't read the book yet, I am absolutely dying to read a Rick Riordan book. Because I heard amazing things about his books but I never got the chance to read one of his book. But hopefully I can read one of Rick Riordan book series soon. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome post.
ReplyDeleteRick Riordan is now one of my favourite authors. I loved this series. I'll definitely be checking out more of his books in the future. The books are so much better than the films, and also have a few differences too.
DeleteThis is one of favourites :)
