Spooky Books To Read This Halloween

If you're looking for spooky themed Halloween reads, books with witches, magic or things that go bump in the night you're in the right place.

I'm personally enjoying some lighter Halloween reading this year. Here's a few from my TBR that I hope to finish this month:

Welcome to Spellbound, where paranormal is the new normal.

When a sleeping dwarf is found entombed in a glass coffin and remedial witch Sophie is blamed, Emma Hart must defend her friend while trying to get to the bottom of the enchantment. The investigation lands Emma smack dab in the middle of Spellbound’s dating scene, where plenty of the town’s residents are eager to make her acquaintance. Emma knows it's time to kick her witchy skills up a notch if she expects to survive Thursday night speed dating and keep sweet Sophie from a life in paranormal prison.

Spell's Bells is the third book in the Spellbound paranormal cozy mystery series.

I'm really enjoying this series so far. I've already read Curse the Day and Doom and Broom this month. Full reviews coming soon!

The Modern Girl's Guide to Magic (Charming Cove Book 1) by Linsey Hall

The Modern Girl's Guide to Magic (Charming Cove Book 1) by Linsey Hall book cover

So here’s the deal—I’m a magical disaster. A witch from a family of witches, and the only one whose magic blows up in her face. Which is why I came up with my rules…

1. Never get involved with magic

2. If you must get involved, do not enter a competition to win the biggest magical fortune in England

3. And definitely don't fall for Callan Hawthorne, the sexy billionaire mage who you've hated for years

So how the heck do I end up in a situation that promises to break all those rules? It's the only way to save Seaside Spells, my family’s magical potion shop.

But it’s cool. When I go back home to Charming Cove—a village of ancient pubs and foul-mouthed familiars—I will totally ignore Witch Weekly’s Sexiest Man of the Year. I’ll win the competition, and if I’m lucky, I won’t turn myself into a toad in the process.

This'll be fine. It’ll all be fine.

Riiiight.

The Modern Girl’s Guide to Magic is a fun, frothy romantic comedy full of laughter, love, and magical hijinks. It’s the first in a series of stand alone romances set in the seaside village of Charming Cove.

Death by Miss Adventure by S.G. Tasz

  • ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0C4N17Y26
  • Publisher ‏ : ‎ The Uglycat Press

  • Print length ‏ : ‎ 367 pages

Death by Miss Adventure by S.G. Tasz book cover

She’s a ghostly assassin. He’s a sharp-eyed Brit who can melt minds. When something goes amiss in the magical underworld, can they unravel a murderous puzzle before all hell breaks loose?

Adina Venture keeps her banter brisk, and her emotions hidden. Maintaining a careful barrier between herself and anyone she cares about, she stalks the lonely Las Vegas nights as a supernatural killer-for-hire. Her signature? Making her jobs look like bizarre accidents—or “misadventures,” as they are often called in the official death reports.

When an organization known for its brutal justice accuses her of slaying one of their own, little Miss Adventure knows she’s in big trouble, and the only way out of it is to prove she’s not guilty. There’s just one problem: Until they’re sure she’s not a killer (at least, not the one they’re looking for), she will be magically bound to Chief Inquisitor Levi Breitling, an unforgiving and unceremonious investigator who’s sure of her guilt. If she can’t convince him she’s innocent, he’ll verify it himself—by digging into her head and ripping out her memories one by one.

In the struggle to clear her name, the unlikely pair uncover clues that suggest the murder was part of a much bigger, potentially Armageddon-level plot. Now, the fate of Sin City hangs on whether Adina and Inquisitor Breitling can find the true culprit before a deadlier monster awakens. And the longer it takes to track down the killer, the tighter the chain between them seems to grow...

Death by Miss Adventure is the darkly humorous first book in the Death by Miss Adventure urban fantasy series. If you like twisty mysteries, witty banter, and slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance with a dash of spice, then you’ll love S.G. Tasz’s award-winning novel. Unravel this snarky gothic mystery today!

Need more suggestions for books to read this spooky season? Here's some reading recommendations for all ages from some of my book blogger buddies:
