1. Explore the Galleria Borghese

No visit to Villa Borghese is complete without seeing the Galleria Borghese, a masterpiece in itself. Home to an extraordinary collection of Renaissance and Baroque art, you'll find works by Caravaggio, Bernini, Raphael, and Titian. The gallery is intimate and beautifully curated, but advance booking is essential — tickets sell out fast!

2. Wander Through the Gardens

The sprawling gardens of Villa Borghese are often called the lungs of Rome. Ideal for a leisurely stroll or a romantic wander, the park is filled with sculptures, fountains, and shaded avenues. Around every corner, you’ll discover something new — a hidden bench, a striking statue, or a tranquil green nook.

3. Hire a Bicycle or Pedal Cart

Want to explore the grounds without tiring yourself out? Hire a bicycle or a pedal-powered cart and glide through the park’s winding paths. It’s a fun, relaxed, and eco-friendly way to see more of the gardens at your own pace.

4. Take in the Views from the Terrazza del Pincio

For one of the best panoramic views in Rome, head to the Pincian Terrace. Overlooking Piazza del Popolo, it offers breathtaking vistas of the city skyline and St Peter’s Basilica in the distance. It’s particularly magical at sunset — don’t forget your camera.

5. Row a Boat on the Temple of Asclepius Lake

Yes, there’s a lake in the middle of Villa Borghese! Near the picturesque Temple of Asclepius, you can rent a rowboat and enjoy a peaceful paddle on the water, surrounded by ducks, trees and serenity — a charming little escape in the heart of Rome.

6. Visit the Bioparco di Roma

Perfect for families or animal lovers, the Bioparco di Roma is one of the oldest zoos in Europe. With over 1,000 animals and a strong focus on conservation and education, it’s an engaging and enjoyable stop for visitors of all ages.

7. Watch a Play at the Globe Theatre

Yes, Rome has its own Shakespearean Globe Theatre, and it's right in Villa Borghese. The Silvano Toti Globe Theatre hosts summer performances of Shakespeare’s plays — in Italian. Even if you don't speak the language, the open-air atmosphere and classic stories make for a truly memorable evening.

8. Enjoy a Picnic or Gelato

Pick up a panino or a cup of delicious gelato, and find a shady spot beneath the trees. Villa Borghese has plenty of grassy areas and quiet corners ideal for a picnic or an afternoon break. It’s also a favourite pastime for locals enjoying a bit of sunshine.

9. Pop into the Museo Carlo Bilotti

This small but fascinating museum, located in a former orangery, houses modern artworks by the likes of Giorgio de Chirico, Andy Warhol, and Giacomo Manzù. It’s free to enter and offers a modern counterpoint to the city’s classical art.

Check out A Guide to the Carlo Bilotti Museum and see why it’s a must-visit spot.

10. See a Film at Casa del Cinema

Film lovers will enjoy Casa del Cinema, which regularly screens films, retrospectives, and hosts film festivals. It’s a great spot to catch classic Italian cinema, and the on-site café is perfect for a relaxing coffee afterwards.

Final Thoughts

Villa Borghese is much more than a public park — it’s a microcosm of everything that makes Rome wonderful: history, art, nature, and beauty. Whether you're spending a few hours or a whole day here, you'll leave feeling enriched and refreshed.

Tip: Allow at least half a day to truly experience all it has to offer — and bring comfy shoes!
