Welcome back, book lovers, to another edition of First Lines Fridays – your end-of-week escape into the opening pages of fiction old and new. If you’re new here, the idea is simple: I share the first line (or lines) of a mystery book without revealing the title or author straightaway. Then, it’s over to you – can you guess which book it is? Do the opening lines convince you to give the book a try?

What is First Lines Fridays?
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!

Because in a world of social media filters and fair-weather followers, Isaac “Nine” Winshed is something special, someone real. He’s strong, and honest, and kind, and so incredibly… genuine.
And when our summer is over, I’m left with an impossible choice: leave Nine behind for the life I always wanted or build a new life with him… together.
