August 2023 Book Blogger Round Up

@Mehsi_Hime reviewed Cuckoos Three by Cassandra Jean and Mosskat. "All in all, I flew through this book, it was just adorable, sweet, at times heartbreaking and sad, but all around fantastic. You will love these characters and their bond/their romance. Highly recommended." Read the full post here.

@alitescape reviewed Portrait of A Scotsman by Evie Dunmore. "I picked up PORTRAIT OF A SCOTSMAN on a whim and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I thought this would be somewhat whimsical and light hearted, and it had moments of the latter. But it was also deeper than that and I unexpectedly really appreciated that aspect." Read the full post here.

@cjfriess reviewed How to Hatch a Reader by Kari Ann Gonzalez & Rachel Suzanne. "Chickens as main characters add an original twist to the process of learning to read. The puns in the text made us laugh (FOWL language, EGG-cellent) and we love the way that they learn to read with words written in seeds on the farmyard. There’s a dance party and a play to celebrate and cement their learning and also a sub story involving Fox." Read the full post here.

@ReadingLadiesBC  reviewed The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin. "Fans of Madeline Martin will definitely be interested in this new release. Also for fans of WWII historical fiction and stories of brave difference-makers. Book clubs might find thoughtful discussion possibilities." Read the full post here.

@HCNewton did a post with Some Questions About Cover Art With…Elizabeth Peiró and Shannon Knight. "We end up talking about being a cover artist, hiring and working with one, AI, and more—with an eye to the snazzy cover to Wish Givers, the cover that Eli provided for Shannon’s upcoming re-release." Read the full post here.

Buckle up, it’s going to be a long flight: first landing in Argentina, then Cuba, a few stops in Europe, and a layover in Iran before reaching our final stop, Japan." Read the full post here.

@shonaholmes23 post a book review for Don't Look Away by Rachel Abbott to her Instagram. "I devoured this book, I think if I’d had the chance I would’ve finished it in one sitting as I just didn’t want to put it down!" Read the full post here.

@meikamacrae reviewed The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson on her Goodreads blog. "This was an entirely enjoyable and eye-opening read! I wish that books that tackle issues like these could be required reading in American history classes." Read the full post here.

Books With Girl In The Title

Reading Suggestions: Books With Girl In The Title

Books with girl or girls in the title have long been a popular trend across multiple genres, from dark psychological thrillers to heart-warming contemporary fiction and swoony romance. While some of the most famous titles get all the attention, there are plenty of lesser-known gems waiting to be discovered. In this post, I’ve rounded up a varied selection of books with Girl in the title that I’ve either read or own, spanning thrillers, mysteries, historical fiction, and more—perfect if you’re looking to add something new to your TBR.

Interested in featuring your book? You can book a Book Spotlight post to showcase your work to my readers.

There's a lot of books out there with Girl or Girls in the title that get a lot of hype. Think The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. While blockbuster titles like these often dominate the conversation, there are plenty of lesser-known books that deserve just as much attention.

That’s why I’ve put together this curated list of books with Girl or Girls in the title that you might not have come across yet. I’ve included a mix of genres and writing styles so there’s something here for almost every reader. Every book featured is one I’ve either read myself or currently own—making this a list of genuine recommendations rather than hype-driven picks.

Whether you’re looking to shake up your TBR or searching for your next binge-worthy read, I hope you’ll find a few new titles to add to your list.

The Dancing Girls by M.M. Chouinard

Jo pulled together the victims’ pictures. In all cases their arms were askew, in a way that looked like—what? It was like they were freeze-framed in the middle of some action. It was like they were dancing.

When loving wife Jeanine is found dead in a small leafy town in Massachusetts, newly promoted Detective Jo Fournier is shocked to her core. Why leave her body posed like a ballerina? Why steal her wedding band and nothing else? Hungry for answers, Jo questions Jeanine’s husband, but the heartbreaking pain written on his face threatens to tear open Jo’s old wounds. It’s the same pain she felt when her boyfriend was cruelly shot dead by a gang in their hometown of New Orleans. She couldn’t get justice for him, but she’s determined to get justice for Jeanine’s devastated family.

But before Jo can get answers, another woman is found, wedding ring stolen, body posed in the same ritualistic way.

Digging through old files, Jo makes a terrifying link to a series of cold cases. She knows a serial killer is on the loose, but nobody will listen to the truth—not her bosses, nor the FBI. Still, Jo won’t let her superiors keep her from stopping the murderer in his tracks, even if it means the end of her career.

Just as she is beginning to lose hope, she finds messages on the victims’ computers that feel like the crucial missing link. Knowing the killer is moments away from selecting his next target, will Jo be able to take him down the before another innocent life is lost?

Little Girls Sleeping by Jennifer Chase

She looked at the smiling, eager face of the little girl in the photograph, with dark hair, bright-green eyes, a missing front tooth, and her entire life ahead of her. Chelsea was last seen walking back from a friend’s house one summer afternoon. She never made it home…

An eight-year-old girl, Chelsea Compton, is missing in Pine Valley, California and for Detective Katie Scott it’s a cruel reminder of the friend who disappeared from summer camp twenty years ago. Unable to shake the memories, Katie vows she won’t rest until she discovers what happened to Chelsea.

Good Girl by Piper Lawson

Good Girl by Piper Lawson

Haley’s job is to keep rockstar Jax Jamieson out of trouble…

Not to fall for him.

I was hired to work for a legend. Instead, I’m being seduced by a man.

When I took an internship on rock god Jax Jamieson’s tour, I never thought he’d look twice at me. He’s older, cocky, jaded and nothing like the college guys I’m used to.

He’s gorgeous, rich, talented, and the biggest rockstar in the world.

Too bad I rubbed him the wrong way on day one.

Now he takes divine pleasure in making my life hell. During soundcheck. On the road. At the hotel after shows.

I need this job for reasons he can never know. That’s why I have to be cool under that smoldering gaze and arrogant grin.

The bigger problem is when the cynicism slips away, exposing the cracks beneath. When he lets his guard down to tell me things he hasn’t told a soul.

Because a million women might scream his name...

But he whispers mine.
