Books: My thoughts about Better Than Hex by Annabel Chase
Book review for the 5th book in the Spellbound paranormal cosy mystery series.
Another fantastic installment in the Spellbound series. This time Emma is juggling therapy sessions, a new friendship with Markos the minotaur, defending a young werelion on a poison charge, and helping to solve a murder investigation.

The book synopsis for Better Than Hex by Annabel Chase
Welcome to Spellbound, where paranormal is the new normal.
Struggling to make sense of recent changes in her life, witch-in-training Emma Hart decides to pursue therapy as well as a budding friendship with Markos, the town's most eligible minotaur and a talented architect. When the building inspector turns up dead in Markos's latest design, Emma quickly finds herself in the midst of a murder investigation. To top it off, she's defending a young werelion whose possession of a deadly substance has everyone wondering whether his intentions were equally deadly. Despite these distractions, Emma can't stop thinking about fallen angel Daniel and his heartbreaking decision. But if Emma doesn't manage to clear her head of all these distractions soon, she might just become the killer's next victim.
Better Than Hex is the fifth book in the Spellbound paranormal cozy mystery series. This is a full-length, humorous cozy mystery novel.

“People don't come to therapy because they intend to do anything,” she said. “Sometimes it just helps to talk about how you’re feeling. Even if that means you’re feeling horrible because there’s nothing you can do about a situation.
“I'm not feeling,” I said. “At least I'm trying not to feel anything at all. After all, you can't lose what was never yours.”
It didn't escape my notice that everyone who mentioned Elsa's good qualities only seemed to focus on her beauty. No one ever remarked on her kindness or her dazzling personality. It spoke volumes.
... she welcomed visitors from then on and was able to see the best version of others and, as a result, became the best version of herself.
“You both have beautiful hair,” I called over my shoulder. I couldn't say much for their personalities, but when I saw an opportunity to give a compliment, I preferred not to hold back.”
“You’re reading Pride and Prejudice?” I asked incredulously. He hardly seemed the type to enjoy Jane Austen. He shrugged. “I was misled by the word pride in the title. I thought it was about us. Once I started reading, though, I couldn't stop.”
It was understandable. He was only twenty years old with the responsibility of a forty-year-old. He hadn’t learned to live his own life yet, but somehow he was responsible for four other lives.
“Loving family. We have unexpected visitors. You'll never guess who.”“Never guess?” A bitter voice said from the next room. “I can smell her toxic fumes from here. There's only one family I know that smells like a mix of sewage, booze, and supper. The question is—which Grey sister is it?”
“When you lose your parents at a young age, you tend to lose a bit of trust in the world. At least I did. It forced me to pay attention to people, to try to understand their motives. I questioned a lot of things.”
“Have you seen what I live with? Magpie is allegedly a cat. Trust me, your minotaur form is nothing.”
“I know. I hope everyone has fun.” And I hoped nobody died. The usual poker night aspirations.
