Books: My thoughts about There’s an Elevator in My Closet by Charlie B. Fox

• I got my copy of There’s an Elevator in My Closet by Charlie B. Fox from Amazon. 
• It had a whimsical appeal to it.
• I gave this one a four star. 
• In this one, we have a brother and a sister. Hunter, the brother, he finds an elevator in his closet and his parents don't really believe him, but his sister does. And so, at midnight, they go into this closet and it takes them on an adventure. 
• I liked the creativity in this as I love books that have a lot of creativity to them and spark the imagination of young readers. 
• I think it's important, especially with children's books, that you can think anything is possible. It doesn't have to be realistic and it's something that's going to take you on an adventure. 
• I liked the other message in the book as well about climate change and the importance of looking after our planet and things, you know, how important trees are and stuff.
• I liked the fact that it had a riddle as well that they had to solve because I think that that would be good for younger kids as well. They can see if they can guess the answer to the riddle and think as well whilst reading it. 
• Overall excellent. I really enjoyed it. 
• I think it's great for younger readers. 
• The text is just the right length. It works well as a bedtime story or as an engaging read for early readers who are just starting out. The language is simple enough for them to understand, and the story itself is captivating. With its creative elements and interactive challenge of solving the riddle, it keeps young readers interested and involved.

A Heartfelt Story for First-Day Nerves

• The author kindly sent me this book and asked if I’d be interested in reviewing it — and as soon as I had a look, I immediately said yes.

• It’s a beautifully illustrated children’s book — the pictures are vibrant, warm, and engaging, perfect for little ones.

• The story is aimed at young children starting preschool, though it would also suit those beginning primary school.

• It explores the fears and anxieties that come with starting somewhere new, especially for children who may be leaving their parents for the first time.

• What I really liked is how the book not only acknowledges those worries but also emphasises the positives — showing that change can be good and that facing your fears can be empowering.

• There are lots of encouraging messages throughout about bravery, confidence, and self-belief.

• I also loved the little lion plush toy that appears as Kai’vier’s companion — it’s a lovely, comforting touch and adds a bit of fun to the story.

• I think this would be a wonderful book to share with a child who’s about to start preschool, or even to read together in a classroom setting.

• It would make a great group reading activity for the first few days of school, helping children talk about their feelings and realise that everyone gets a bit nervous about new beginnings.

• Overall, I thought it was a heartwarming, reassuring read — perfect for easing first-day jitters and celebrating courage in little ones.

Books: My thoughts about Four Cold Months by K.J. Kalis

• I read Four Cold Months as part of the Clock Reading Challenge, where this one covered number four on my list.
• It’s the first book in the Detective Max Grady series, and I gave it four stars — though honestly, it’s more of a three and a half for me.
• I didn’t like the main character, Max Grady, at least not at first. He’s quite unlikeable, which made it frustrating — but despite that, I couldn’t stop reading, which says a lot.
• The story follows a missing woman case that turns into a kidnapping, with plenty of angst, tension, and mystery.
• Grady clearly has a lot of personal baggage, and I think as the series goes on, we’ll get to understand him better.
• Some plot points felt unresolved, but I’m guessing those will be picked up in later books in the series.
• I liked how the story explored family ties, responsibility, and difficult choices, which made me stop and think — that’s something I always appreciate in a book.
• It definitely raises interesting discussion points, so it would work well for a book club read.
• Even though parts of it annoyed me, I found it addictive — one of those books that gets under your skin and makes you want to see how it all ends.
• The writing keeps you engaged, and there’s a good balance of suspense and emotional depth.
• I already own book three in the series, so I’ll definitely be continuing — though I’ll need to get book two first.
• I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys crime thrillers or police procedurals with complex characters and moral dilemmas.
• Overall, a solid start to the series, even if it left me with mixed feelings — frustrating at times, but ultimately a compelling and thought-provoking read.
