November 2024 Book Blogger Round Up

Book Blogger Posts Round Up

A collection of blog posts by book bloggers

Welcome back for another Book Bloggers Round Up! Let's see what book bloggers have been posting about during November.

Disclosure: The FTC Disclosure Provision is a law that requires influencers to disclose when they are being paid to promote a product or service. So please know that if I'm not making money through affiliate links/sponsored content on the post you're currently reading, it's an oversight on my part and will be corrected soon. Read the full disclosure about all the legal stuff here.

I introduced this feature here on the blog in May 2021 to showcase blog posts by other book bloggers and as it continues to be a popular series I've decided to continue again this year too.

Each month I'll include a wide variety of content so there's something for everyone. You'll find book reviews, interviews, discussion pieces and more...

So if you're looking for new bookish content to read and/or want to discover some new book bloggers to follow, look no further!

Why I do this feature:

Scanning through various social media feeds to find suitable content can take up valuable time and so I figured I'd make it easier and put together a collection here on the blog.

It's also a way for me to highlight some of the other great book bloggers out there and help promote books and reading at the same time.

How it works:

Each month I do a post via my Twitter, where I offer the opportunity for book bloggers to submit posts published during that month for inclusion in this round up. I do this every month.

Want to be included in future round ups? Follow my Twitter profile and keep an eye out for the submission tweet.

@GinaRaeMitchell was part of a blog tour for Crossing Day by William A. Glass and shared her review. "While the story’s themes may be heavy, they resonate deeply, prompting reflection on the values we hold dear. Glass’s novel is a poignant reminder of history’s enduring impact and the importance of standing against tyranny." Read the full review of Crossing Day here.

@booklorefairy reviewed Moving is Murder by Nellie H. Steele. "I enjoyed reading this book a lot. There were so many sweet and calm moments so if you're looking for something heartwarming yet still brimming with mystery, you should certainly pick this book up." Read the full review of Moving is Murder here.

@_forbookssake reviewed Everything Happens For A Reason by Danny Care. "This book is incredibly honest, beautifully written, and a joy to read. DC’s love for his family, for his teammates, and for rugby as a whole are the true highlight of his story, and I’m grateful that he has shared it with us all." Read the full review of Everything Happens For A Reason here.

@SifaPoulton reviewed Barrington Stoke’s Classics Retold; FRANKENSTEIN and GREAT EXPECTATIONS by Tanya Landman. "Barrington Stoke, the UK’s specialist in books for dyslexia and reluctant readers, is releasing retellings of the classics that are far more accessible." Read the full reviews here.

@leftontheshelf1 shared her review of The Foyles Bookshop Girls' Promise by Elaine Roberts as part of a blog tour. "It is a well written book with fantastic characters who I was completely engaged by. I felt frustrated every time I had to put it down, and I could hardly wait to get back to it. It had everything that you would expect to find in a book of this genre; great characters in a historical setting with a bit of romance and angst to add to the tension." Read the full review of The Foyles Bookshop Girls' Promise here.

@DanSamEnd reviewed Ice Town by Will Dean. "An addictive story that’s fantastic from the first page – it’s dark, insightful, intricately plotted, and tremendously tense." Read the full review of Ice Town here.

@TStrawberryPost did a lovely Tribute to Victoria Zigler: Author, Blogger and Friend. Read the full post here.

@EastHullPete reviewed The Enigma Girl by Henry Porter. "This is a lengthy novel, some might think a little too long, but there is an awful lot to pack in and it never becomes a dull read." Read the full review of The Enigma Girl here.

First Lines Fridays

Books: First Lines Fridays 29th November 2024

Are you ready to judge this week's book based purely on the first few lines?

Disclosure: The FTC Disclosure Provision is a law that requires influencers to disclose when they are being paid to promote a product or service. So please know that if I'm not making money through affiliate links/sponsored content on the post you're currently reading, it's an oversight on my part and will be corrected soon. Read the full disclosure about all the legal stuff here.

I'm participating in First Lines Fridays as I think it's a great way to highlight more of the books that are on my bookshelves.

What is First Lines Fridays?

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

My Pick For This Week

The first lines of the book:

The Night Jam was rammed. Pounding music pulsed through the club and the walls felt sticky with sweat, alcohol and likely worse. Minnie held tightly to Greg's hand as they jostled through the crowd near the door.

Do you know which book this is from? Scroll down to find out!

Book review for the 7th book in the Spellbound series

The story of Emma Hart in the town of Spellbound continues and this time it gets political. With the election underway, the pressure is on to solve the murder of one of the candidates. Emma is also dealing with the repercussions of her secret getting out and trying to defend her client.

As usual, Emma is; juggling a client, a murder mystery, her love life, learning more about her powers and her past, keeping up with lessons and helping friends.

Review

4 stars

Discussing A Touch of Magic by Annabel Chase

My Review Summary:

Key Takeaways from the video:

  • I reviewed A Touch of Magic, the seventh book in the Spellbound series by Annabel Chase, and gave it another four stars.

  • I’m really enjoying this series — if you like paranormal romance mixed with cosy mysteries, it’s definitely worth checking out.

  • In this instalment, Emma Hart is dealing with the fallout from her big secret being revealed, which affects both her personal relationships and her status within the Spellbound community.

  • She’s juggling client cases, friendships, and the dynamics between different groups in town, making this a busy and pivotal book in the series.

  • I felt this was a major turning point in the story, and it gave me a sense of the direction the final books in the series might take.

  • The series has surprised me — I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much, but it’s become one of my favourite reads this year.

  • I’d encourage anyone to step out of their comfort zone and give it a try; the mix of light paranormal elements, romance, mystery, and community intrigue is very engaging.

Quotes from A Touch of Magic by Annabel Chase

“Remind me never to grow up. Adulting sounds too complicated.”

My heart soared at the mention of his name. "It's been pretty great, actually. It's such a nice change to just be together like a normal couple. Okay, maybe not a normal couple since we’re an angel and a sorceress, but still…”

I sat in my weekly therapy session, alcoholic drink in hand. Catherine Hall ran her practice like a bartender with a psychology degree. Admittedly it was a strange mixture, but it seemed to be working for me. It helped that I was fond of the eccentric vampire.

"The truth is important," Gareth said. "No matter how difficult it is to learn."

My anxiety was on high alert and I pounded my fist on the stone wall. "Let me out!"

It doesn't matter how smart or stupid or young or old someone is. We all have something to contribute to the community at large, even if it’s simply our sunny disposition.”

Her inquisitive hazel eyes locked on me. "Fine. I'll talk to you. But only on the front porch. I'm not risking you tracking any black magic through my house."

There were no tears, but I didn’t judge her for that. I knew grief took many forms and not all of them involved public displays of histrionics. I would never use that as a measure of someone's love for the deceased.

Stars and stones, Gareth was right. Vampires were like a catty group of mean high school girls.

Carolina barked a short laugh. "Of course we had issues. We're immortal and married. Issues are inevitable. Certainly nothing worth staking him over, though."

I was not what you would've called a sophisticated child. Then again, there was something to be said for naiveté. There was a certain magic connected to ignorance that I missed sometimes.

"You know I don't mind being labeled as a dreamer," Begonia said. "The world needs dreamers too."

"This is how we make progress. If we never did anything wrong, how would we learn anything at all?"

Book Review Six Geese a-Laying by Sophie Kinsella

Books: My thoughts about Six Geese a-Laying by Sophie Kinsella

A Mini Christmas Short Story

I'm a fan of Sophie Kinsella and even got the chance to hang out with her years ago at an event here Rome, so when I saw she had a special short story available as a free gift to readers I jumped at the chance to read it.

This book isn't really a Christmas read, other than that it takes place over the holiday period, so if you're looking for festive feels this might not be what you're after.

It is however a very quick read, free to download and perfect for ticking off number six in the Clock Reading Challenge 😉

The book synopsis for Six Geese a-Laying by Sophie Kinsella

Six Geese a-Laying by Sophie Kinsella book cover
A special Christmas gift for fans of Sophie Kinsella, available to download for free! Includes a mini short story,
Six Geese a-Laying, and sneak peak at the first chapter of Sophie's fabulous new novel, I've Got Your Number.

In
Six Geese a-Laying, Christmas is approaching, and Ginny is looking forward to the birth of her first baby. It's a pity her partner Dan is so useless, and she has to keep reminding him where he's going wrong. Luckily she's enrolled into the most exclusive antenatal class going - all the highest achieving, smartest mothers-to-be aspire to be taught by the legendary Petal Harmon. Like the other five women in the class, Ginny already knows exactly what she wants, and how she's going to handle motherhood.

But when they turn up for the final class it isn't quite what they expect. As Ginny discovers what parenthood is really going to be like, she begins to realize the things that really matter...

Review

3 stars

Discussing Six Geese a-Laying by Sophie Kinsella

My Review Summary:

Key Takeaways from the video:

  • I reviewed Six Gay by Sophie Kinsella, a short and enjoyable read, which I gave three stars.

  • The story follows a mum-to-be attending an exclusive antenatal class alongside five other soon-to-be parents, each with their own expectations of motherhood.

  • She has clear ideas of how motherhood should be, while her partner struggles to meet her standards, adding a humorous tension.

  • The final class features a special guest who gives the group a glimpse into their potential futures as parents, in a style reminiscent of Charles Dickens’ ghost-of-Christmas vibe.

  • It’s a quick, cute read — not groundbreaking, but well-done and charming in Kinsella’s signature style.

  • Loosely Christmas-themed, it could be a nice reflective read for expectant parents or anyone looking for a light holiday story.

Quotes from Six Geese a-Laying by Sophie Kinsella

There are six of us altogether, all due around the same time – Christmas. As I walk – well, waddle – into the room, the fire is glowing and the fairy lights are twinkling and it really looks quite Christmassy.

When a midwife came to talk to us, Geraldine’s first question was ‘If you were negligent during my delivery, would I sue you individually or the hospital?’

It’s all in the mind. You can see it as pain, or you can see it as empowerment.

‘I know who it is,’ says Grace suddenly. ‘It’s the Ghost of Babies Future.’ She looks at the figure, her face white with fear. ‘Is that right?’
