The November Challenges

Welcome back for another month of the Social Media Audit Challenge 2021! I hope you did well with the October challenges. Don't forget to add your progress report to the October link up.

Over the course of this year I'll be posting monthly challenges to help us improve our social media presence and get better results.

The Challenges

Over the course of the year we'll be working on different aspects of our social media. Each month will have a different focus and tasks to carry out.

The November Challenges

During the second half of the year, and our challenge, we'll be concentrating on individual social media platforms each month so we can get more specific with each one.

Our focus for November is on Instagram.

Instagram

1) Consistency is key

Just like with blogging, consistency is key on social media too, and Instagram, is no different. People like to know when they can expect new content to be published.

Once you've gotten into a solid routine try adding in an additional day each week to increase frequency.

Task 1: Schedule posts so that your content posts regularly.

2) Promote your Instagram on your other social media channels

Cross promoting is a great way to reach a wider audience.

Task 2: Share your posts on your other social media profiles.

3) Connect and network

Instagram is a social media site and so you need to be actively participating in order to get results.

Task 3: Leave comments of other peoples profiles and encourage people to engage on your posts.

The Monthly Link Up

In order to keep us all on track, and give us a way to see each others progress, I'll be hosting link ups every month where participants can share their links and discuss their progress. The link up November progress will be on 6th December.

2021 Challenges: September Update

September was another busy. Both of my kids went back to school after the long 3 month summer break. It's always a bit of a struggle to get back into routine after so long. I am not liking my 7am wake up call every morning that's for sure! Been testing how many times I can hit snooze before it means we're in panic mode to get us out the door on time 🤦

September was also my birthday month. I am now 41 years young. Unfortunately my health problems continue to cause trouble... including on my birthday. I just can't catch a break.

I do have good news to share though. I hit a new PB for views to this site. In September I had 47,138 views 🥳🥳🥳 My previous PB was set in July this year when I hit 44,880. I am so happy with the growth of this site over this year and feel motivated to keep improving it. Thank you to all of you that read my posts here 💖 Please leave a comment with any suggestions of topics you'd like me to cover.

The Blog Audit Challenge 2021

The September Challenges were focused on readability.

I already do all the things listed in the tasks for September but I am going through older posts to make sure they are optimised for readability too.

The Social Media Audit Challenge

For this challenge I'm concentrating on social media. The September focus was on YouTube.

My YouTube channel is already set up with my branding and this year I have been getting into the habit of scheduling my videos in advance to make sure they publish every Tuesday.

I also already embed my videos in my blog posts. What I have been working on most is sharing my videos on my social media platforms. I've not been great about doing this in the past but I've been improving over this last month and have seen a small increase in subscribers to my channel.

I created the Clock Reading Challenge as I thought it would be fun and not too difficult to complete.

The October Challenges

1) SEO on Pinterest

The first thing you need to know is that Pinterest is a search engine. SEO applies to all search engines, not just Google, and that means it’s super important on Pinterest too.

SEO is all about making sure your content reaches your target audience. Pinterest is a visual search engine which means it’s important that you make it clear what the content is about. Your basic Pinterest SEO strategy is therefore to make sure Pinterest understands what your pin is about by including relevant keywords.
Task 1: Make sure you’re using keywords in your pin titles and descriptions to help your content show up in the search results.

2) Where your content gets seen

The smart feed is the pins you see when logging in to Pinterest. These are based on the boards you’ve recently pinned to, your favourite topics and pins you’ve engaged with recently.

The following tab is where you only see content from accounts you’re following. I suggest following other book bloggers so you can see what pins they are creating and become a more active member of the book blogging community on Pinterest.
Task 2: Follow other accounts in your niche
3) Hashtags
Hashtags are relatively new on Pinterest. When you publish new pins, use 2-5 relevant hashtags to the end of each pin description. Also try using your blog name as a hashtag as it will help users find more of your most recent content more easily.
Task 3: Make sure you are including a couple of hashtags with keywords in every pin.

4) Pinterest boards

Make sure you create boards to cover all your blog categories and sub-topics. You may want to consider creating different levels of boards e.g. “Book Blogging” or “Book Blogging for Beginners”, and more specific long-tail keyword boards like “Book Blogging Ideas: Not Just Book Reviews”.

Create multiple pins for the same content and pin to different boards. This is a great way of putting new life into older content too as Pinterest loves fresh content. It also gives you the chance to experiment with different styles of pins to see which go down best.

Group boards on Pinterest can be a great way to connect with other book bloggers and increase traffic to your book blog. Check out my post on Pinterest Group Boards for Book Bloggers here.
Task 4: Create short and long tail keyword boards
Task 5: Create multiple pins for the same content and pin to different boards.

Task 6: Get involved in group boards

Be prepared for the long game. You probably won’t see results immediately on Pinterest. It takes time. Don’t give up. If you pin consistently, using correct SEO, Pinterest can bring a lot of organic traffic to your book blog.
