Excerpt
That’s when I saw my face on the TV. It was my high school picture from four years ago. My face was fuller since I had lost 25 pounds this year from spending some of my spare time on a recreational soccer team but overall, I looked the same. There was no way I could fool myself into thinking it wasn’t me on the television screen. Next to the picture were the stats that once belonged to my physical self. The conservative looking reporter with his perfectly brushed come-over and bright blue eyes said I was 5’9, 145 pounds, black curly hair, dark skin, hazel eyes. My body shuttered from crying with no tears. It was a pathetic scene (which I was glad no one could see) but I cried harder knowing there was really no relief from this terrible pain. In life, tears were a way of watching emotional pain flee from the body, but now they were stuffed deep down inside of me somewhere and bottled up with a cork. I couldn’t hear what was being said on the TV and really didn’t want to. My parents must have gone to the police and said I was missing. I disappeared just in time to make the 11 O’clock news; I’m sure my killer was at home enjoying this. Exploding in anger, I punched the outside wall that faced the street. The couple sitting side by side on the couch shivered and moved apart. They felt me! “Hello!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. They didn’t budge anymore, but for a moment they did feel me. There was no hole in the wall, but they must have heard when the punch landed. For a short time, I was a part of the normal world again.

Author Bio:
Janiera enjoys feeding her book addiction when she not writing. Writing is theraputic to her during her struggles with Fibromyalgia. Being unable to work a normal 9-5 is what encouraged her to write full time. She is also a book blogger at Beauty and Books where she mixes being a book nerd with keeping things chic. When not reading or writing she is freelance writing in the entertainment industry. When trying to relax she likes a huge yard sale on a Saturday morning, rainy days to read by and nacho cheese is her kryptonite. Soul Sisters is her debut novel.

Feel free to visit her book blog where she loves reviewing books and doing author interview at Books & Beauty- http://janieraeldridge.blogspot.com. She loves feedback and welcomes any questions or comments to her email: prettyhaydengurl@yahoo.com or connect with her through her author page: https://www.facebook.com/authorjanieraeldridge

Interview with Janiera:
1.      What did you learn while writing your book?

I learned that if you really have a passion for writing, your writing will take up a life of its own. Your characters will start doing all sorts of things all by themselves. I thought when writers mentioned this it was myth but, as I wrote I saw my book bloom into something better than I could imagine.

2. What are you working on right now?
I’m always a freelancer looking for work in the entertainment, beauty, health and book world. I’m spending most of my time right now preparing to attend the 2013  Indie Bookfest, meeting new fans and working on the third book in the Soul Sisters series!

3. What gave you the desire to write?
I loved writing in high school but never had the time to finish anything. After leaving college because of my Fibromyalgia writing became a way for me to escape from my pain. The more I read the more I was inspired to write and tell my own stories. In a way I’m grateful for the unexpected turn my life took because I love to write so much.

4. Who is your favorite author and why do you enjoy their work so much?

My favorite author is Stephanie Meyers. Despite how much negativity surrounds her Twilight books, the women renewed people’s love for reading (me included).  It was just such a wonderful story that though the writing was simple it pulled me in and I could never put it down! Her work really inspired me to write a good story because after all that truly is what reading is all about.

5. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank you so much for wanting to read my book!  There are so many wonderful reads out there and I never take for granted that you chose to read my book. Always, happy reading!

Praise for Good Ghost Gone Bad:
“This book was so good I couldn't put it down, but that was also because I was so scared I was gripping my e-reader too tightly. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. This book is certain to be a cult classic YA Horror. I can't wait to read more from this author.”
-Avid Reader

“This book was a fun, quick read that would be great for any horror fan. The main character, Brianna, is brutally murdered by a crazy serial killer and her ghost is left in limbo with out the ability to move on. When that same serial killer begins to stalk Brianna's little sister, past victims of the same guy show up with a murderous plot to protect the innocent while pursuing some much needed vengeance!

It's bloody, it's gory, it's vindictive, and it's frightening! This novella will make you think twice about the things that go bump in the night.”

-Cover designer & author Marya Heiman

The past couple of weeks have been hectic to say the least. With my 18 month old having baby measles, and life basically throwing a bit of everything at me, my stress levels have gone through the roof lately. I've still been busy working though.

The tour for Fairy May continues to take me to various destinations across the web and is drumming up a nice buzz for the book, not to mention collecting some awesome 5 stars reviews along the way! You can see the full tour schedule at my website. All comments, shares and likes are much appreciated.

In other news I've also been working on my next book. Yep no rest for the wicked! Today I'm very excited to show you the cover art for Virtual Book Tours: Effective Online Book Promotion from the Comfort of Your Own Home.

The book will hopefully be released this Spring so watch out for the official release date. With years of experience organising my own virtual book tours and collaborating with tour companies, I have loads of information, tips and advice to share in this book that will make it a must have for any author.
Featured Friday: Isosceles by Scott R Caseley

This week's Featured Friday is Isosceles by Scott R Caseley

About the Book:

Featured Friday: Isosceles by Scott R CaseleyWhen he finds his best friend Trey Goodsby dead and almost completely submerged in a bathtub filled with bloody water, Sean McIntyre is determined to find out if it was an accident or suicide. Did his death accidental or intentional have anything to do with Madeline Edwards, the woman who came between them constantly through their thirteen-year friendship? The tale begins with the death of Trey Goodsby, and explores his relationships with family, friends, his romances, and which of the circumstances he found himself in that led to the tragic event, and the repercussions for those he left behind.

If you have that feeling that you're coming up short...what will it take to feel equal?

About the Author:

While this is his first novel, he wrote and directed a dramatic feature, co-wrote and directed a documentary and wrote for an online magazine. He’s also a trained voice, stage, and screen actor. In addition to his creative pursuits, he is passionate about healthy living. He follows a mostly self-directed fitness quest consisting of weight training, walking, swimming, yoga, and hula hooping. When not working out, he also enjoys cooking healthy gourmet meals as well as playing board games with family and friends with plenty of coffee brewing to keep the fun going until the wee hours of the morning.

Excerpt from book:

“Go over to the play area. I’ll deal with you once I’m done with…ah…whatever his name is.” Carter nodded to where the rest of the kids kneeled, stood, or sat on a blue carpet, watching a boy building with wooden toy blocks. Right away, I could sense he intended on crafting something difficult, a scale model of the courthouse down the road from Footbridge. While the boy’s physical appearance seemed rather ordinary, his skills could not be beat. He hadn’t misused a single block. Without any hesitation or second-guessing himself, he knew what to do to put everything in the right place.
“That’s so cool, Trey,” I heard a soft voice like the melodious whisper of birdsong, my intuition revealing the identity before my eyes did. Madeline swayed from side to side, beaming with her pearly-whites.
Trey paid her no mind though, allowing himself to be distracted only by his overgrown dirty-blonde hair, which kept going in his face. Sometimes, he didn’t even push it away. His focus so intense, a few times, he almost knocked into other kids. He never apologized for it, nor did most get upset. They seemed to understand he was in a zone, one with his creation. He circled the perimeter to detect if it needed something. Whenever he snapped his fingers, he’d call out “cylinder,” “triangle,” or “rectangle.” Madeline would select it out of a decaying cardboard box, to present it to him like an obedient puppy bringing a tennis ball to its owner.
Mr. Carter, with Sheldon behind him, returned from their business in the hallway. They joined the rest of us, studying Trey’s handiwork. Before long, Mr. Carter became entranced, too. It felt frustrating. Being an only child, I was used to being the center of my parents’ universe. Here, someone else stole the attention so rightfully mine. Worst of all, watching Madeline fawn over him drove me crazy. His hair was messy, his shirt dirty, and he was just average. Why did he hold her interest? Shouldn’t she see me instead? Mom knitted me this nice sweater and combed my hair before I went to the bus stop. My head started pounding from over-thinking the situation when Madeline moved toward him, letting her pigtail accidentally brush against his head. He didn’t seem to notice, but I sure did. I needed to take action.
Creeping over to the box of blocks less than five feet from the audience, I reached in blindly selecting a triangle-shaped one with green crayon on the side facing up. With everyone so enamoured by the courthouse, they didn’t even notice my hands trembling at my side with rage. Giving one last furtive glance to Trey, Madeline, Mr. Carter, and then ending on my classmates, I felt ready to execute the plan.
Many of the other kids started to pick up on my actions, giving me a brief moment of satisfaction. Their jaws dropped as they watched the projectile block following a jagged path through their makeshift circle. Of course, motor coordination issues since birth and anger clouded my vision. Translation: my aim was inaccurate.
The block went careening through the air, never even coming close to its intended target. Trey knew no fear, however. He must’ve sensed my imprecise aim the moment it left my unsteady hand. Without raising an eyebrow, let alone diverting his eyes from his structure, his arm swatted the wooden toy away like a fly. It changed course to come crashing down onto the bridge of my Madeline’s button nose. I’m not sure what started to pour first, the blood from her nostrils or the tears from her green eyes.
The bloodstained triangle ricocheted off her face to the courthouse, knocking it down like dominoes. At the same time, Madeline wailed in pain. Trey’s eyes cast down at his destroyed masterpiece, over to her, and finally to the crowd of spectators, with a cold, soulless expression. He breathed heavily out of his nose, needing to know who ruined his work. Sheldon, along with two other snitches, fingered me for the crime.

Being a writer is awesome! I really mean that too. I love my job. From the creative side of things to the marketing side, I love it all. Here's just a few of the reasons why, for me, being a writer is awesome:

  • I can work from anywhere. As long as I have my laptop or even just some paper and a pen then that's enough to get the job done. My house, coffee shops, the beach... anywhere I want.
  • I get to be with my kids. This, for me, is a one of the most important reasons why I love my job. I get to be a full time mum and work. I can involve my kids in my work too. As a children's author and illustrator it's great to be able to test story ideas and draw pictures together. They are an excellent resource! ;)
  • I can work in my PJs. I know it's a bit stereotypical but I DO often work in my PJs. I have no dress code to follow and therefore can wear what I want. If I don't feel like getting dressed no one is going to care. I can wear comfy slippers on my feet, a track suit, jeans and a top... no need to look smart or wear a uniform.
  • I can choose what I work on. I can write non-fiction or escape into fantasy worlds. The choice is all mine. For freelance work I can select what kind of articles I want to write too. Creative freedom, Bliss! :)
  • I get to have fun with marketing. Being a writer gives me a valid excuse to be on social media sites so often. It's part of the job to market my books and build my author brand and social media is the perfect place to do it.
  • I pick my own hours. I can give myself time off when I want or need a break. Time out for tea and cake... don't mind it I do.
These are just a few of the reasons why I love being a writer. What do you like about your job? Are you a writer too? What perks are on your list?
