July Challenges

Our focus for July is on content promotion.

When it comes to content promotion strategies for blogs there's actually a lot of things you can do.

There are lots of other things you can do as part of your content promotion strategy, including; sending new content to your email list, mentioning an influencer (then mention that you’ve mentioned him or her), connecting with a mentoring/peer group, etc... but in order to not overload our task list for this month we'll be concentrating on some of the more simple and most powerful strategies.

The July challenges:

1.  Sharing on social media

Whenever you publish a new blog post you should be sharing it on your social media channels. This shouldn't just be a one time only though. Whilst you don't want to spam your followers with the same content there's nothing wrong with sharing the same post multiple times. Just don't do it all at once.

Spread it out over the course of the day, week, and even month. That's right. You don't only share on the publication date. You can share later on as well.

If you are going to share the same post multiple times within a shorter time frame e.g. on the same day, it's a good idea to get a little creative with how you share.

  • The first time might just be the link with a brief written intro.
  • A few hours later you might share an image or graphic with the link.
  • Later on you might share a quote from the post with the link.

You get the idea. Share the same content but in different ways to make it more interesting. This is also a great way to see what kind of content that gets the best results with your followers.

Task 1 Share your posts multiple times to social media

2. Content communities

Content communities allow users to share online multimedia materials. Popular content communities include YouTube, Flickr, and SlideShare.

This is a great way to re-purpose your content and drive new traffic to your blog.

An example of this is my blog post An Introverts Guide to Networking which I then turned into a video for my YouTube channel. Make sure you link back to the blog post in the description of the video.

Task 2 Submit your post to a content community

3. Make sharing easy

Every blog post you publish should have social share buttons to make it super easy for your readers to share your content on their chosen social media platforms.

If readers just need to click to share they are much more likely to do so as it requires minimal effort.

Task 3 Make it easy for readers to share your content by adding social share buttons to your blog posts.

4. Outreach

Email outreach can be a powerful SEO strategy to build backlinks. Essentially it's when you reach out to other bloggers and ask them to link back to your blog from their site.

"Your outreach should clearly demonstrate how your content adds value to the person that you are reaching out to and their audience. If you cannot do this, there is a good chance you should not be sending in the first place". - Semrush

Task 4. Send an outreach email

  3. I greatly appreciate this post especially because I am horrible about sharing my posts on anything. I'm always self conscious about it and don't want to spam people. Thinking of these as tasks, especially with your challenge as a start, might be one way of being more willing to put myself out there. I'm so glad I came across your post through the Cozy Book Blogger Club. You've made me a follower! :D

  5. I always share my posts on Twitter for a week, spreading them throughout the day and then older posts on a Thursday. I don't do them more than once on other platforms as they are not set up like Twitter and would annoy people. Thanks for the advice.

    1. Each social media site has it's own style and etiquette. Twitter is definitely better for multiple shares of the same content. On others you can still do multiple posts for the same content but it's best to mix up the style of post you use and spread them out with several days in between each post.

  9. Would sharing your post on content communities be a conflict SEO wise with the blog? How would you go about an outreach email? I've never heard of bloggers doing that! The only thing that concerns me with doing it is the other blogger either not knowing enough about SEO and not realizing how it can help or the blogger will assume you're only trying to help your blog.
