My Local Library: A Behind The Scenes Tour

Close by our apartment we have a special children's library called Casa Dei Bimbi (the house of children). I love this little library and so do my kids. I thought I'd share it with you and give you a quick tour of a library in Rome.

Welcome to L'isola delle fiabe (which translates as the island of fairy tales).

As soon as you walk in you can tell it's a children's library. Colourful painted walls welcome you where ever you look. The staff are all super nice and helpful too.

This is the main area. As it's a children's library there are plenty of kids sized tables and chairs for the little ones.

They have a huge selection of children's books as you would imagine in a children's library. Obviously the most part are in Italian as we live in Italy, but they do have a section dedicated to other language books too. You can also order in titles you particularly want from the other libraries in Rome.

As well as all the picture story books and books for early readers, they have an extensive section for older kids too. Plus lots of teen and YA books.

Then there's the mutlimedia area. They have a good selection of DVDs and Audio discs you can borrow. There's actually two sections for the DVDs; one for the kids and another separate one for adults.

They have a special area upstairs with books on parenting, and education.

The library also organises lots of events and even have a special room for hosting in. I love the super sized book decor in the corner.

    1. The larger, adult libraries are boring here too but I love this children's library. It's got such a happy vibe to it. Libraries should be magical places that encourage the imagination. I would love for adult libraries to follow the example of this one.

    1. This library is one of our favourite places. The kids got certificates last year for reading out loud to groups of children. They host lots of readings and cultural events. They sometimes mix music with readings too. One of the librarians plays guitar. They have baby dance sessions and meditation for mums to be, and a whole host of other events on their calendar.

    1. I miss my old library in the UK. It was so good. This one is super cute though. Great for the kids. I'm dying to tryout some of the other, bigger, libraries here in Rome. Maybe once the kids are back to school in September.

  8. I like the look of that library. I live in a village and the library is small and outdated but the staff are lovely and helpful and it still has a good atmosphere.

    1. Can they still order in books from other libraries for you? A lot of libraries offer digital books now too. Another feature I still need to use at ours.

    1. We go once a week. I'd love to be able to go to more of the events ours host. They do everything from baby dance, to singing, to cooking. They have an ongoing project at the moment called Around the World. They host it once a month and each time feature a different country and teach the kids about the culture, language, etc... with a special guest from that country to answer questions.

    1. This one is special as it's specifically for kids. There are other libraries here in Rome that have a children's section though. I like that they have a themed library just for them though.

But now I can't walk to my local library anymore because of my bad knee and ankle, so I just tell my mom to take me there. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome post.
