December 2025 Book Blogger Posts Round Up

December 2025 Book Blogger Posts Round Up

A collection of blog posts by book bloggers

Welcome to another Book Bloggers Round Up post! Let's see what book bloggers posted about during December.

Disclosure: The FTC Disclosure Provision is a law that requires influencers to disclose when they are being paid to promote a product or service. So please know that if I'm not making money through affiliate links/sponsored content on the post you're currently reading, it's an oversight on my part and will be corrected soon. Read the full disclosure about all the legal stuff here.

I introduced this feature here on the blog in May 2021 to showcase blog posts by other book bloggers and as it continues to be a popular series I've decided to continue again this year too.

Each month I'll include a wide variety of content so there's something for everyone. You'll find book reviews, interviews, discussion pieces and more...

So if you're looking for new bookish content to read and/or want to discover some new book bloggers to follow, look no further!

Why I do this feature:

Scanning through various social media feeds to find suitable content can take up valuable time and so I figured I'd make it easier and put together a collection here on the blog.

It's also a way for me to highlight some of the other great book bloggers out there and help promote books and reading at the same time.

How it works:

Each month I do a post via my Twitter, where I offer the opportunity for book bloggers to submit posts published during that month for inclusion in this round up. I do this every month.

Want to be included in future round ups? Follow my Twitter profile and keep an eye out for the submission tweet.

@ReadingLadiesBC shared her Favourite Historical Fiction of 2025 as part of Top Ten Tuesday. Read the full post here.

@leftontheshelf1 reviewed The Making of Maddy James by Sara Sartagne. "The book has been well written, and the author understands her characters very well. Equally, I felt she had researched and spent time in Corfu in order to compose such a compelling atmosphere for her novel." You can find her full review here.

@booklorefairy reviewed Into The GigaVerse by M. L. Tilford. "Into The GigaVerse truly kept me guessing at every turn. It was exciting, mysterious, thrilling, and made me forget that I don’t really like science fiction." Read the full review here.

@WordsofMystery reviewed Never Ever After by Sue Lynn Tan. "What redeemed the lukewarm plot of Never Ever After was Sue Lynn Tan’s writing; despite some initial pacing issues, it’s so lyrical and flows beautifully. I also loved her rich descriptions of palace life, especially the fashion and the food. Plus I didn’t hate how often the female characters stole the “show,” as the male characters in Never Ever After were either just supporting characters or just “there.”". Read the full review here.

@TStrawberryPost reviewed Angelo and Angelina: The Christmas Angels by Anne Booth & Leanne Hatch. "Overall this is a lovely story that makes you smile so much after reading it. I love the message about the angels at the end as well as the wider story about Mia, her parents and Mrs Lovely and the way it encourages people to think of others, especially those who are older in the community." As 2026 approaches, many people feel motivated to get in shape—but beginners often don’t know where to start. The good news? Building a beginner workout plan is simpler than it seems. You don’t need fancy equipment, long workouts, or perfect discipline. You just need structure, small steps, and consistency.

This guide walks you through creating a realistic, flexible, beginner-friendly workout plan you can start today and carry confidently into the new year.

A Personal Note About My 2026 Fitness Journey

As I step into 2026, I’m determined to focus more intentionally on my own health and fitness. Over the past year, my various health conditions have reminded me—sometimes gently, sometimes not—that my well-being must come first. I’ve spent a long time pushing through discomfort, brushing off symptoms, and convincing myself I’d “start tomorrow.” But I’ve realised that caring for my body can’t be optional anymore—it needs to be a priority. So this year, I’m committing to small, steady steps, choosing movement that supports healing, and building routines that make me feel stronger and more alive. I hope sharing my journey encourages you to take those first steps alongside me.

1. Start With Your “Why”

Before choosing workouts, identify your motivation:

  • Do you want more energy?

  • Are you trying to lose weight?

  • Do you need to reduce stress?

  • Do you want to build strength or mobility?

Your “why” shapes your plan and helps you stay consistent when motivation dips (and it will).

2. Set Realistic, Measurable Goals

Avoid vague goals like “get fit.” Instead, choose simple targets:

  • Walk 20 minutes a day, 4 days a week

  • Do 2 strength workouts per week

  • Increase flexibility enough to touch your toes

  • Lose 5–10 pounds in the first quarter

Clear goals turn your plan into a roadmap, not a guess.

3. Build a Weekly Workout Framework

A simple beginner-friendly structure for 2026 might look like this:

✔ 3–4 Days of Low-Impact Cardio

Great options:

  • Brisk walking

  • Cycling

  • Elliptical

  • Beginner dance or step videos

  • Light jogging (if joint-friendly)

Start with 15–20 minutes and work up to 30 minutes.

Helpful gear:

  • A comfortable pair of walking shoes can make all the difference.

  • A fitness tracker is great for monitoring steps, distance, and calories.

✔ 2 Days of Strength Training

Focus on full-body exercises:

  • Squats

  • Glute bridges

  • Lunges

  • Press-ups (wall or knee variations)

  • Rows (with bands or dumbbells)

  • Planks

Aim for 20–25 minutes, completing each movement for 8–12 repetitions.

Helpful gear:

  • A set of resistance bands or adjustable dumbbells is perfect for beginners.

  • A yoga mat can provide cushioning for floor exercises.

✔ 1 Day of Stretching or Mobility

Gentle yoga, foam rolling, or 10–15 minutes of simple stretches:

  • Hamstrings

  • Hip flexors

  • Chest

  • Upper back

Mobility days help prevent injury and support long-term progress.

Helpful gear:

  • A foam roller helps release tight muscles.

  • Yoga blocks or a stretch strap can make stretches more effective.

4. Start Slow and Progress Gradually

Beginners often push too hard early on and burn out.
Instead, increase intensity in small steps every 2–3 weeks:

  • Add 5 minutes to cardio

  • Increase weights by 1–2 kg

  • Add an extra set

  • Try more challenging variations (wall press-ups → knee press-ups)

Small progress = sustainable progress.

5. Keep Your Workouts Short and Simple

You don’t need hour-long routines.
Most beginners thrive with 25–35 minute workouts.
Focus on developing the habit first—results follow consistency.

6. Mix In Fun, Seasonal Activities

A 2026 plan should be flexible and enjoyable. Depending on the time of year:

  • Try hiking in the spring (hiking shoes)

  • Swim in the summer (swimming goggles)

  • Join autumn charity walks or virtual 5Ks

  • Do indoor routines during colder months

Fitness becomes easier when it feels like a lifestyle, not a chore.

7. Plan for Obstacles

Life happens—but you can stay consistent with a little planning:

  • Busy schedule? Use 10–15 minute “micro-workouts.”

  • Travelling? Pack a resistance band.

  • Low motivation? Do a “minimum” version of your workout (5 minutes).

  • Injury? Swap high-impact exercises for low-impact alternatives.

Consistency beats perfection every time.

8. Track Your Progress

Use anything that helps you stay engaged:

  • A simple fitness journal

  • A fitness app

  • A habit-tracking calendar

  • Monthly photos

  • Notes on how your energy and mood improve

Tracking progress builds motivation and shows you how far you’ve come.

9. Stay Flexible and Adjust Every 4–6 Weeks

Your body will adapt. Your schedule might change. Your goals might shift.

Every month or so, ask:

  • Are my workouts still challenging?

  • Do I enjoy them?

  • Am I getting stronger or feeling better?

  • Do I need to adjust frequency or intensity?

A dynamic plan keeps you improving throughout 2026.

10. Remember: Progress Is Personal

Don’t compare yourself to influencers or seasoned gym-goers.
Your beginner journey is your own—and every workout counts.

Sample Beginner Workout Plan for January 2026

Monday: 20-minute brisk walk
Tuesday: Beginner strength training (20 minutes)
Wednesday: Rest or light stretching
Thursday: 25-minute indoor cardio video
Friday: Full-body strength (20 minutes)
Saturday: Yoga or mobility (15 minutes)
Sunday: Rest or leisure walk

Final Thoughts

Building a beginner workout plan for 2026 doesn’t require perfection—just intention and consistency. Start small, stay steady, and celebrate every step forward. Your 2026 self will thank you.

End-of-Year Blogging Audit How to Prep Your Site for the New Year

End-of-Year Blogging Audit: How to Prepare Your Site for the New Year

As another year draws to a close, bloggers are reflecting on achievements, evaluating strategies, and setting goals for the year ahead. But before planning next year’s content, there’s one crucial step you shouldn’t skip: a complete end-of-year blogging audit.

Performing a yearly audit helps you clean up your website, refresh old posts, fix technical issues, and start the new year with a blog that’s optimised for SEO, speed, and growth. Follow this step-by-step guide to give your blog the ultimate year-end check-up.

1. Analyse Your Blog Analytics

Start by reviewing your website analytics from the past 12 months. Understanding your readers’ behaviour and your blog’s performance is key to improving engagement.

Check for:

  • Top-performing posts – Identify articles that drove the most traffic. Update them with new content, internal links, and optimised keywords.

  • Underperforming posts – Low-traffic pages may need rewriting, improved formatting, or keyword optimisation.

  • Traffic sources – See whether visitors came from Google search, Pinterest, social media, or email marketing. Focus efforts on the most effective channels.

  • Audience behaviour – Look at time on page, bounce rates, and returning visitors to see what content resonates.

Pro tip: Keep an eye on what worked this year so you can plan even better content for 2026.

2. Refresh and Update Old Content

Refreshing old blog posts is one of the most effective ways to boost traffic and SEO without creating entirely new content.

Check older posts for:

  • Outdated statistics or facts

  • Broken links or missing images

  • Poor formatting or readability

  • Opportunities for internal linking

  • New keywords relevant to your niche

  • Weak meta descriptions or headlines

Updating older content improves search rankings, keeps your blog current, and helps maintain authority in your niche.

3. Fix Broken Links

Broken links negatively affect user experience and SEO. At the end of the year, perform a thorough link check:

  • Broken internal links

  • Outdated external links

  • Missing images or media

Use tools like Broken Link Checker or Ahrefs to identify and fix issues. A polished site keeps readers engaged and improves your search performance.

4. Optimise Site Speed and Performance

Website speed is critical for SEO and user experience. Perform a performance audit:

  • Compress large images using tools like TinyPNG

  • Remove unused or heavy plugins

  • Update your theme and CMS

  • Enable caching and browser compression

  • Ensure mobile responsiveness

Even small speed improvements can reduce bounce rates and increase organic search visibility.

5. Organise Categories and Tags

A cluttered category and tag structure confuses readers and search engines. Ensure your blog has:

  • Logical categories with minimal overlap

  • Useful, relevant tags

  • Correct post placement (ideally 1–2 categories per post)

A well-structured site improves navigation, SEO, and user engagement.

6. Review On-Page SEO

Check that every post is optimised for SEO best practices:

  • Focus keyword included in title, headings, and content

  • Proper H1, H2, H3 structure

  • Alt text on all images

  • Engaging meta descriptions

  • Internal and external links

  • Readable formatting (short paragraphs, bullet points, subheadings)

Consistent on-page SEO increases your chances of ranking higher on Google and other search engines.

7. Back Up Your Blog

End-of-year is a perfect reminder to back up your entire site:

  • Full website

  • Theme customisations

  • Database

8. Review Your Plugins and Tools

Audit your plugins and tools to ensure your blog remains fast, secure, and reliable:

  • Outdated plugins – May pose security risks

  • Unused plugins – Slow down your site

  • Duplicate plugins – Keep only the most efficient one

  • Heavy or unnecessary plugins – Replace with lightweight alternatives

After reviewing:

  • Update remaining plugins, themes, and CMS

  • Check compatibility

  • Test your site to confirm functionality

A lean, optimised plugin setup improves site speed and security heading into the new year.

9. Test Site Speed and Performance

Perform a detailed site speed test to ensure optimal performance:

  • Use Google PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix

  • Compress and optimise images

  • Minimise unnecessary scripts and CSS

  • Consider a CDN for international traffic

A fast, responsive blog improves user experience, SEO, and reader retention.

10. Review Your SEO and Content Strategy

End-of-year is the perfect time to audit your SEO and content strategy:

  • Identify top-performing posts – Repurpose or expand them

  • Spot underperforming posts – Update or combine content

  • Check for broken links – Fix or redirect

  • Refresh outdated information – Update stats, dates, and references

  • Plan for next year – Use insights to create a 2026 content calendar aligned with your audience

A comprehensive SEO review strengthens your blog’s visibility and sets you up for growth in the new year.

Final Thoughts

An end-of-year blogging audit isn’t just about fixing problems—it’s about preparing your site for success. From SEO optimisation and content refreshes to plugin management and speed improvements, a thorough audit ensures your blog is polished, professional, and ready for growth in 2026.

Take the time now to review, refresh, and optimise, and your future self (and your readers) will thank you.

First Lines Fridays

Books: First Lines Fridays 26th December 2025

Some books don’t need a synopsis.
Some don’t need reviews, ratings, or recommendations.

All they need is one perfect opening paragraph.

That’s the magic of First Lines Fridays—a space where stories get just a few lines to make an impression. No context. No hints. Just words on the page and the question: would you keep reading?

Disclosure: The FTC Disclosure Provision is a law that requires influencers to disclose when they are being paid to promote a product or service. Why I Love First Lines Fridays

I'm joining in with First Lines Fridays because it’s a brilliant way to highlight more books from my own collection. Whether it’s a current read or one still on my TBR pile, I love sharing those unforgettable opening lines that instantly grab you.

What is First Lines Fridays?

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

My Pick For This Week

The first lines of the book:

The crisp, December air of a decade ago still clung to the edges of their memories, a nostalgic perfume laced with the heady scent of cheap champagne and the sharper, metallic tang of youthful defiance. Five figures, united by the unshakeable certainty of their late twenties, had gathered in a dimly lit university common room, the fairy lights strung haphazardly across the ceiling casting a festive, yet somehow melancholic, glow. It was the eve of their graduation, a threshold moment, and the air thrummed with a potent cocktail of excitement and a gnawing apprehension for the unknown future. Liam, ever the dramatist, had produced a thick, leather-bound journal, its pages still blessedly blank, and a fountain pen with an exorbitant price tag.

Five friends. One pact. A Christmas reunion none of them will survive.

ONE OF YOU BROKE THE PACT. ONE OF YOU KILLED ME.

When a blizzard seals them inside and “gifts” appear revealing their darkest secrets, paranoia takes over. Old betrayals surface. Trust fractures.
And someone begins hunting them from the shadows of the lodge.

But the truth is worse than any of them imagined—
because the dead man isn’t dead, and one of them is far more dangerous than the storm outside.

Mistletoe Malarkey (Shayla Murphy Mysteries Book 1) by Stella Bixby

For more than a year, Shayla and Seamus have built a life together, falling in love, sharing dreams and laughter. Now, they're embarking on a new adventure: spending Christmas with Seamus's family in the enchanting land of Ireland.

Seamus, a down-to-earth park ranger, has always been modest about his background. Living with three roommates and driving a trusty old pickup truck, he never gave Shayla any reason to suspect he was anything but ordinary.

Until they land in Ireland, and Shayla discovers he's practically Irish royalty.

The welcome is warm, but unexpected. The press descends, camera flashes ignite, and Shayla's previously hidden insecurities start to surface. A holiday that was meant to be filled with festive family fun now carries the weight of public scrutiny.

The getting-to-know-you dinner party sets the stage for a complicated holiday. An old flame, a mysterious uncle, and a whole town full of complex characters await Shayla. The table is set with rich Irish fare, traditional music, and sparkling conversation.

But the celebration takes a dark turn when a guest ends up dead.

Local law enforcement are quick to step in, urging Shayla to leave the matter to them. Her policing skills might be respected in the United States, but in Ireland, she's merely a visitor.

Shayla's instincts are sharp, and whether she seeks them or not, clues seem to find her at every turn. Despite warnings from the Gardaí and the tangled web of family dynamics, she can't shake her sense of duty to solve the case.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of a quaint Irish village, adorned with historic charm, this Christmas mystery unfolds with subtlety and suspense. Join Shayla as she navigates family traditions, new relationships, hidden agendas, and a murder that threatens to overshadow the joy of the season.

With a touch of romance, a hint of intrigue, and the authentic warmth of an Irish Christmas, this tale is a perfect fireside read. Embrace the season with this engaging holiday mystery, as Shayla proves that love, loyalty, and the pursuit of truth transcend borders.
